I hate putting my boots on for the first time

Going skiing tomorrow at A Bay for opening day and decided it would be a good idea to throw my boots on to see how they fared the last 7 months of storage.


GODDAMN my arches are cramping so bad right now. Such a love/hate feeling.

Just thought I'd share.

if your boots hurt then they fit poorly.. news flash to everyone ski boots shouldn't hurt. AT ALL. If your arches are cramping then most likely your boot isnt wide enough or you dont have the proper foot support (lack of footbeds)

news flash, i went broke three years ago on getting custom fit boots/liners and have had the shell blown out 4 times since and had constant work on the liners. my feet just aren't used to being in stiff, constricting boots instead of skate shoes and i have a bone spur from my old boots.

Sure, if they hurt while skiing or during the season, then yes, they probably don't fit right. But, he's not talking about during the season or while skiing, he's talking about the first time he's putting his boots one. Its called having soft feet, your feet have become accustom to being in loose fitting shoes or even flip-flops/sandals and then shoving them into a confining boot they become un-happy, but after wearing them for a little while your feet get used to the feeling and don't hurt. It happens to me every season cause I tend to wear shoes as little as possible (I hate shoes), but after like a run or 2 my feet don't hurt at all, and wont all season long.

obviously the boot is putting your foot in an uncomfortable position, hence it fits wrong (the original shell is most likely a poor boot environment for your foot)...if youve had your shell blown out 4 times then your bootfitter is slackin. Plus the only "custom" liners worth looking at are intuitions. Don't be mad..

i'm not mad, you're trying to prove how i'm wrong by making an irrelevant argument. my foot has been in sandals/skate shoes for the past 7 months.... it has nothing to do with the boot fit.

have you really never put your foot in your boot and had it feel like crap for a few runs before your feet adjusted to the "environment" and stopped hurting?

The arch of my right foot is fucked up and hurts all the time. I think i have planters fasciitis, where the muscles in your feet cramp up and contract.
One of the only times that it doesnt hurt is when it is in my ski boot. So Im actually looking forward to it!

WRONG!!!

If your boots hurt when you first put them on after a summer then it is normal. The quality of footwear we wear in the summer (ie flip flops, crocs, etc...) are horrible for your feet and cause them to change slightly.

The best thing you can do is start wearing proper fitting shoes for about a month before skiing again. By proper fitting I mean tied up and sized properly. There's a reason your ski boots are usually a size smaller than your shoe size.

but i feel for the OP, my boots were fitted correctly, footbeds and all that jazz but first day or two if i'm unlucky i have arch pain then numbness, then joy from then on.

I love the feeling of having my boots tight as fuck, and having stiff boots.

It makes me feel so gnar when i sit on the couch with them on and watch sk movies.

It appears you have never worn race boots in your life.  I bet you've been using some wide ass SPKs and you've been skiing for two years, the whole time primarily park.  You probably have trouble carving a turn.

cute. Ive never skied anything over 100mm last. I only ski sidecountry and BC and would put you to shame, very rarely ski the park. I like your rage though. Very misdirect.

So maybe I exaggerated a bit.  Either way, you were proved wrong by like 7 people.  And I wasn't raged, I just made exaggerated assumptions, in a semi-joking manner.  So maybe you are a good skier, I won't deny that but I can't really believe it either.  Either way, you were told wrong by like 7 different people.

And to that one person, by carve, I was really just saying make a turn with sharp edges considering a lot of kids on this website gummi stone their edges down to the point where they serve no purpose.

To be clear, no one "proved" me wrong, how would anyone here know if this kid actually has boots that fit. I'm going off the description he provided you're all going off a case of soft foot syndrome (genius). Just because some random 7 people on NS "told me wrong" when none of them have actually fit a boot, I'm not changing my mind in the least. Yea maybe the boots will feel uncomfortable for a bit, but they sure as hell shouldn't be painful.

They can hurt. It doesn't mean somethings wrong. When I bought my ghosts, they felt insanely tight, painful and just shitty all around. After skiing in them a few times, they packed out perfectly and my feet toughened up. Not a single problem for the rest of the season. In fact it's probably worse if your boots are comfy when you buy them, because that probably means they're going to pack out into a sloppy mess that won't give you any control over your ski.

Ugh, my boots fit nearly perfectly man. They're Lange racing boots so they're stiff and tight. I'm going for a wider shell next purchase but these have been blown out enough to the point where it's not an issue anymore. The boots felt fine between wearing them last night for a few hours and skiing a few runs in them today. Chillllll brooo, nobody cares that you only ski sidecountry and BC.


But goddamn, I was just excited to go skiing and decided to make the thread, knowing that people could relate... and instead, people just got all butthurt about some damn boots. Anyways, y'all are just ancy that you can't ski yet.

Today was the best opening day I've had in a long time. It all got tracked out super fast but there was at least 5-6" that fell throughout the day and it was cold so the snow was light and fluffffffyyyy.

gj getting some early turns in, wish i could do the same. Glad your boots ended up feeling solid. Wasnt trying to piss anyone off, skiers just seem to be on edge in October lol.

It is 100% true if you have a rather flexible (soft) foot- the bottom of your foot (the plantar fascia band) will tighten up if you wear unsupportive footwear like flip flops or skate shoes or croks etc. If you then take that foot which has adapted itself to a non-supportive environment and then put it into a boot that has a supportive footbed, your foot will need adjust to it. Sometimes it can be very painful and this could be one of the reasons why the OP's feet didn't like being in a ski boot after the entire summer.

I never "proved" you wrong, I just said people told you wrong.  Which was very badly.  I should've just said people contradicted you.

And also, yeah I like the boots right now.  Haven't skied them yet, but the liner feels great and I'm not too sure about the tongue yet.  I'll probably try the 10 for a couple days and if it's too stiff buy an 8.  I don't like soft tongues though.

you're obivously some hack of a bootfitter if you think intuitions are the only customer liners worth looking at. for a traditional overlapping boot the intuitions are horrible!

you've obviously never heard of foam injected liners and/or are too useless to figure them out.
