I know this type of topic has been beaten to death in other threads, but I was curious if anyone has skiied both the S7 and the bent chetler, and could offer a comparison. I ski mainly vail and some CO backcountry, not a huge jibber, but like to play around and ski trees/cliffs a lot. Looking for a new powder ski.
If you're not a big jibber I would point you towards the S7, the shape is still super playful in the trees ect, but due to the pintail, its not geared so much towards switch skiing/landings. But, thats great for pow as the tail sinks right in an brings the tips up. I also like the S7 shape more, they have much more taper than the Bents which = super fast turning and fun in pow.
However, in all honestly, they both rock and you would be happy with either.
message -ham- in my friends list. he had both last year. S7's seemed to be the way to go, he loved those skis. bents were pretty noodly on him, hes a big guy but still, i had never seen anyone washout as hard as he did on landings if they werent perfect
Personally I thought the Benny was a lot more fun and maneuverable and I hardy ever ride switch. Imo, see what you can get a deal on. also h/w/a would help.
I've heard that with the S7 it's either you love it or hate it. Now, I have ridden neither, so don't put too much thought in what I'm saying, but I figured it doesn't hurt to know!
Sweet thanks. I ride switch almost as much as I ride norm. I had the chopsticks last season and those things stuck landings wether switched or not. My biggest worry with the bentz is that they're to soft in the tail... I weigh 2 Hundo
id say look at the armada jj- almost the same construction as the bentchetler since atomic presses all of armadas skis so they can borrow tech also check out the surface new life from what i have heard its a super fun ski
bentchetlers are a blast, hard snow or soft, and even in the park. the rocker isnt outrageous which is nice if youre not skiing powder, but more than enough no matter how deep the snow is. theyre soft without a doubt, but i am 6'1" 220lbs and have never had a problem with washing out on them. for a backcountry jib ski they really cant be beat.
thanks for the responses. i had heard that the bent had more pop and could spin better (even if not landing switch), but it sounds like the S7 would probably be just as much fun, and might even be better for dropping cliffs
