First time trying misty 5's

Hey, newschoolers, well i better introduce myself to start off with as im pretty new to the community, im tim and i ski down under and the seasons finished up now.

Anyway, today was my last day for the season, and i was getting 5's alright, and one of my mates told me to just huck a misty 5, and i though why not. Long story short, i kept knuckling the jump, and face planting the landing, and on the last run broke my ski.

Have you guys got any pointers for mistys that i should keep in mind for next season?

it sounds like you arent popping.... when your coming up to the lip stay really low... like a squat position and jump as hard as you can off the lip and punch the midget.

This, with misty's if you pop too early you are setting your rotation basically into the lip, and you will come up short. Pop at the top of the lip as hard as you can, drop your shoulder and look over the opposite shoulder from the one you dropped, and you'll come around and spot that landing. boom. stomped.

The way I do Misty 5s on tramps and diving boards, never done them on skis so I have no idea, is to take my right hand and try to grab my left foot and than mid way in the air you should be able to spot your landing and than stomp it...It is super hard to explain but you just punch downward and left.

Seriously, the best way to describe the motion for a misty 5.

Forward pressure on your boots, nice athletic stance, make sure the speed is right. Get a good pop, and punch either your left or right hand to the opposite knee (depending on which way you spin). Bring your knees in, look over your shoulder and you'll see your landing. Commit and very little can go wrong. Super easy and fun trick once you get them down.

you still have to pop dude. unless you were just a little scared and taking less speed into the jump. but first things first.... you gotta make the landing. if you feel like you were going just as fast as you were the other times, than you were probably rolling off the jump and flipping right away (hence not going up first and getting the air you would go doing a 3). you still want to pop, and extend before you actually roll over the misty. props on sending it though, good luck next year.

thanks for the tips guys, much appreciated. Yea i can do them easy on tramp, and i had good speed but your probably right, i threw it into the lip too early and didnt wait to throw it.

if your doing misty 5s, try and do more of a flip rotation opposed to making it more bio like , so you definently need to get a good pop, then set your rotation.. Ive only done a few misty 7s and i think they may be easier because you dont have to control your flip/ rotation as much .. usually i like to bring my right arm up before the jump and throw it down towards my left foot.
