So I am moving back to SLC this season and am in the market for some powder skis as I am sick and tired of digging my skis out of deep snow when my tips dive in. So I have been looking around a lot and what I really wanted was to get the Armada JJ's 175, but unfortunately they are a little out of my budget right now which really sucks. I am a 5'4" aggressive female skier. I weigh between 130 and 14o during the ski season.
I can get either a pair of 169 obseths or 169 Hellbents for about $450 since they are both last years models. Im looking for some opinions about it and which I should go with or of there are some other skis I should look into as long as they fit in my budget. I just refuse to ski girls skis as they have a speed limit on them it seems and my K2 misdemeanors 165 are slow as hell. I also ski a pair of Dynastar Nothing but Troubles 169 which I love but they are just way too skinny for those knee to thigh deep days.
Ill just save and get the JJ's next season but I still need something fun for this
They don't have speed limits .. and I understand that you aren't happy with your Missdemeanors .. but there are reasons that women ski women skis.
Lighter and thinner doesn't mean slower. Also your weight is a large part of which ski you are looking at, because you may not need a huge ski underneath you to float easily.
Before the haters hate, yes women do/can ski mens skis obviously (Look at Ingrid Backstrom), but I think you are wrong in ruling them all out because your Chinese made K2's seem to have a "speed limit."
Thanks. I agree that my size and weight is a huge factor that has been my biggest concern when looking at men's skis and that is why I decided to get the misdemenors last year, but I still find my Dynastar's much more fun to ski and much faster. When it comes to women's skis it has always bothered me that they dont have any full rockers available and they seem to just be behind on some of the new technology. And if people want to hate screw them I dont care.
I have two year old Obsethed's, I really like them. They are versatile enough where you can cut laps through pow, crud or even hardpack groomers if you need. They do wash out a little on hardpack, but for sure are a way better all around ski compared to the Hell Bents. I love the HB skis too but realalistically i'll hardly ever get into that much deep stuff where I ski. Take a look at the Line women skis too, i've been looking for new sticks for my GF, and K2 and Line are stepping up, offering wide skis specific for the ladies.

The line pandora, obsethed, or salomon czar is where I would look to go. The pandora is an amazing all around pow ski. End of sentence. The obsethed is super playful. The czar is stable at speed, yet a medium flex, but is a great choice if u r not looking to ski pow switch, but want something to stop airs and just be an all around charger. My ski buddy's wife came down to a decision between the pandoras and the czar, and ended up choosing the czar for its stability at speed and in chop, but loved them both.
Oceanography?!?! Is that like pornography in the ocean?
What if skiing had some horrible side effect; like it gave u mad pimply balls.
And what if snowboarding was the only cure?
i have last years Obseths. i love them. i know quite a few people who have the Hellbents as well and think they rock. I don't know what to tell you to get honestly but i am sure that you would have a ton of fun on the obseths!
