The AF100 forum on DVXuser is booming. The camera hasn't even come out yet and its the hottest forum on the site. This camera is huge (not literally...).

If anyone has the chance, check out some of Barry Green's interviews from IBC - they're on DVXuser and YouTube - he has a lot to say about this bad boy.

That list price above is just camera - if they were to sell it with lenses the price would be through the roof.

So no, that price is just camera and does not factor in the cost of lenses/follow focus/rails/mattebox/audio/video/recording media/etc. All that is on top...which bodes well for all the DSLR users who are upgrading. They already have teh lenzes.

I think if i had an af100 i might not be hitting jumps with it, but i guess and hvx was 5gs at one time too.


I don't think ill be hitting jumps with my new toy (hopefully) on my hvx.

How many of you on here are doing green screen work everyday and do dozens of layers of color grading?  None of you (most likely).  Stop bitching about the color space.  The HMC150 looks IDENTICAL to the HPX170 unless you are being mean to that shit in post.  The 7d/5d don't have 422 color space and the colors impress me much more than most HPX/HVX footage (on average).  There's so much more to it.  The new sensor is going to kill babies.  af100 = DSLR +HMC150 + more  Holy shit this will be amazing.

I worded some of that wrong but I'm too lazy to fix it.  Anyways.  I'm goingt to probably shoot HPX for a year and then leap on over to the new "DVX" of this era.....the AF100!  This camera is IT guys.  Street prices at 4500 I'd guess which means in a year used bodies will be like 4000.  That's affordable.  These bad bois will be sold out for months though so pre-order now if you want to get your hands on one.

I wonder what a wide angle/fisheye would look like on this. I know that a lot of people bitch about the lack of wideness on an HVX...I know this is nothing like it.

Basically you can put any lens on it with an adapter so there are ton of options.


And the HVX has a wider stock lens than most cameras, me thinks you don't know what you're talking about.

Well id completely disagree, with my .6x on its WIDE as fuck. I can do follow cams WITHOUT a wide angle if i want, thats how wide the stock lens is. If you line up the bottom of the frame of the image with a straight line, its curved, thats how wide it is.

naw... that much you think? totally depends on how much lens splurging one is willing to do I'd say. Still a fairly affordable piece of equipment (compared to others) right from it's launch I'd say.

Mehhhhh that's if you deck it out. For the very basics I doubt you'd need that - I've seen the price breakdowns, I've read about what one needs and what one doesn't, but just do get one and start shooting? Definitely not 10Gs. To get one and start making money? Yes, probably 10Gs.

Meh you're right...in my mind though (maybe since I've never used a DSLR, perhaps) I can't see myself buying tons of lenses and support (aside from a tripod) and other stuff...just the nitty gritty can produce great results.

Of course, you're right, to get anything done with it you'd need all that gear, but that's what I meant by someone who's using it to make money - in that case it's an investment.

6g's will get a functional af100 setup.

Usually one who is buying a camera of this caliber HAS a good set of sticks, audio equiptment, ect. I agree with blondie.

The whole point of the AF100 is that it doesn't NEED the add ons to function properly. A DSLR does. It's a real video camera.

A full setup will cost 10+ thousand though but that's a different story.
