Souping up A 1998 850 volvo wagon?

i was thinking about stormtroopering my white wagon haha and before i do it i just wanted to get some other peoples opinions.
so....

yes Xtreme11 is an idiot...with that v8 swap he might have gained maybe 50lbs but an easy 300+ extra horses from the swap

50 lbs is ALOT of extra weight to put in the front of a car, not to mention the size of the engine means more weight will have to be further forward, more weight hanging over the front wheels. which is possibly the worst place to put extra weight.

the ls1 weighs around 430lbs. which is pretty light for an 8cyl. but not that light. i couldnt find weights for the 850's 5cyl, but i really doubt its much over 300. unless for some reason its extremely heavy for a 5cy. its probably right at about 300 or less.
so another 130lbs, is a shit ton of weight to be putting in the front of your car, it will ruin the handling. 50 lbs will make it very noticeably worse.

His volvo weighs over 3300lbs and you think 50lbs extra for over 300 extra horses is bad??

That dumpy little 5cyl at its best put out 165..surely after all the miles its gone through it is significantly lower

The volvo 5cyl weighs 365lbs dry...60 extra lbs for that much extra power is a no brainer trade off

yes, 60 lbs in the front of the car is bad. if that 60 lbs was a 6 year old passenger, then no, it wouldnt be very bad at all because it doesnt effect the balance of the car being right in the middle. but adding 60 lbs to the very front of the car, and extending it up even further past the front axle is a horrible idea for handling.
and i could care less about the extra 300 HP, its a street car, you dont need it. plus you will become a much better driver driving a slow car fast rather than relying on power to cover your bad driving...

if you want a drag car, dont look at a fwd volvo wagon. get mustang or something.

im guessing he could do header back exhaust, cams, everything he could do for the intake, ecu, etc and get plenty of power. or just do a turbo setup, isnt that engine turbo'd for the R anyway?

and your telling him to not throw in an ls1 but add a whole turbo setup??

You are clearly retarded and/or poorly misinformed, how much weight do you think will be added with his turbo, intercooler, piping and all that jazz..maybe not as much as the difference between that and an ls1 but then you have to deal with all the tuning and turbo lag

a buddies turbo setup weighed about 30lbs, and only about half that is being put in front of the engine, the turbo was right at the firewall, and mounted down low. so yeah its adding weight, but its putting it in a better place. the only handing difference i noticed was a worse turn in feel, which did lead to a little bit of a push. but it was a very slight difference. still not worth the extra power IMO.
i dont like turbo car's either, id take an NA engine over a turbo any day. its just another option. its not something i personally would do.
i just would never sacrifice any handling performance for pretty much any amount of power. unless the car was just unbearably slow.

i thought it was in the 8's? either way, thats not too bad. especially for fwd's shitty ability to launch. unbearably slow would be like cant get past 80. i got to ride in an old MG, which had a 0-60 of like 15 seconds, and it was fun as hell, more fun than any huge power car ive ever been in.

Swapping an LS1 into an 850 is a stupid idea. 

Why?  Because the 850 is FRONT WHEEL DRIVE.  V8 conversions on rear-drive Volvos are not stupid ideas.
