So i ski mt baker and am looking for a powder ski that will help me out with a rocker and i cant decide between the Armada JJ or the 4FRNT CRJ i have saved enough money for both of these but am unsure of which skis i would like most.I am 5 10' 130 lbs (pretty light) i would just like some input. any experiences with either of these skis?
Pretty much the same ski, the more interesting question is what length? Are you a pretty agressive skier and age also plays a roll because if you are looking at growing and gaining some weight you might want to look at a longer length.
im the same height. and weight as you and i bought the crj 180cm with the lion. i wanted either the crj or the JJ too. but when i got the crj i was amazed at how it handled in the trees and how the tails held up when i landed a big cliff and the front tips arent too soft they can charge but arent really made for charging, also they are great on groomers sometimes i just like to take my crjs out for a couple groomed runs insted of my other skis, i give the crj 10/10
JJ's are amazing, just saying. Don't know too much about the CRJ, but all I can say is that if you ski Baker, (like I do), the JJ would be perfect. btw I'm 5'11, and 140, so were about the same size.
I'm 5'10, 150lbs and I had the 185cm JJs for the past 2 seasons. They are an awesome ski. They can ski anywhere and anything, float great, and are very light. I had tons of fun on them. This season, I'm buying 180cm 4FRNT CRJs. They're pretty similar to the JJ but the CRJ has a longer turning radius (which really only makes a difference on groomers) and I've heard they're softer which is what I'm looking for. Either way though, you can't go wrong.
I am a more aggressive skier i like to jump cliffs stuff like that i plan to do alot of back country riding. and im 20 turning 21 in oct so ill probably grow a little i was thinking either 180 CRJs or 172s im thinking the JJ's in 175 if i got them.
if you are an agressive skier and 5 10" i would consider the JJ in 185 or CRJ in 188 . youll love the longer length in the pow and for stomping the cliffs .. and since both skis are light the longer length will be no problem .
It depends how aggressive of a skier you are. At 5'10" I would say the 188. they only thing that I hesitate on is that you weigh only 135lbs. If you are due to put on a little more weight or you are an aggressive skier then for sure go 188.
Either one is a great ski, the crj if u want a softer ski, the jj can charge as hard as u can put it to them, super stable at speed. I would never turn an advanced skier away from buying the jj, and have yet to talk to anyone who has skied them and hasn't loved them.
i was just talking to a 4frnt rep and he said using the 180 for me at 5'10" 150 lbs is perfect, i am just curious what the differences in how the ski rides would be for me. i'm not really sure what getting the 180 vs 188 implicates for how the ski rides. thanks.
why dont you get the moment donner party or armada arg if you ski bottomless baker pow? you could defeniately go fatter when skiing baker.
reverse camber reverse sidecut skis are miraculous in bottomless pow pow.
dont even worry about the preformance of the ski. just worry about how good they will look on your feet and the topsheet design. most people dont even care about how they ski they just worry about looking good. so ask people about the comments they got about how cool their skis looked, so you can make the right decision about what will look super sick. oh and size doesnt matter either.
im pretty sure size of ski and performance of ski matter alot when your talking about making a investment like 750 dollars i dont know if you are some rich kid but i had to save the whole summer to indulge in these beautiful shredding devices being a college student. yeah i plan on gaining a little weight so maybe the 188 might be a good idea i just feel like its a big jump from a 170 but ill go check them out at a ski shop or a Revolver they might have some at Evo in seattle
If you are 150 and 5 10" then you want the 188, especially with the rocker in the tip and tail the ski will feel much shorter than 188. Also, if you are looking at a pow ski you want more surface under foot to give you float and the 188 is light enough to still make the ski feel way playful.
I have the 185 JJ and weigh 150 and 5 10" and the 185-188 range in length is perfect. It provides the right amount of float, makes the ski feel way stable at higher speed and they are still light enough to throw tricks in the pow.
If you end up going with CRJs, I have two pairs (180 and 188) of last years that have been drilled once and barely ridden AND I am in Bellingham most of the time...
jjs are quick, light and very fun in powder. They also take cliffs like a champ. they do lack in variable and hardback conditions so consider that. Ive ridden my 185s for 2 seasons now. might trade for on3ps doe.
I'm 5'9" and 170 and I like the 180 cm for the crj. I think that length works well for the design of the ski, playful. Since they're somewhat shorter they're easy to throw around in spins and can still charge hard.
i would gfo with the jjs or maybe the bubba ive demoed both those skis at my local hill and they were amazing. also k2 hellbents would be ok, we have a guy who skis with those in the park. ik crazy right and he says there just a bit heavier than his normal park skis so those would probably be a good choice for someone small like you
So I skied the jj s in 2009-2010 season love em and I've been skiing in crj since 2011...they are completely different skis. The turning radius of the jj is a 14 or 15m which is ridiculously tight while the crj is a 28m...the rocker on the crj is mellow compared to the jj and not as dramatic. The jj ski better on hard park, the crj side cut profile makes super fun in soft snow....and maybe it was just my paid of jj but the durality was horrible ripped both out heels on at least 6 seprate times, while the crj have taken a beaten and still rip. i can say I would never buy another pair of jj but I definitely will buy another paid of crj
