Hurricane Earl and East Coast

Looks like the US East Coast could take a bit of a fisting from Hurricane Earl.

Big Ass strom - Cat 4!! I was in Ike, which was a Cat 2/3 and that was freakin wild....  sustained 100mph winds are intense and fuck a lot of shit up.

Who's all up there? are they evacuating anyone?

I was always told - Run from the water, hide from the wind...  get your sand bags ready!

I remember in Ike, the winds were so intense, pretty much like watching a jet engine in the rain - all the rain drops just get vaporised into a mist, so you can't actually see very far - then power goes out - for like weeks...

I hope it doesn't make a last minute shift to the west!!

Then you're all fooked...  im just glad it didn't come into the Gulf of Mexico, because it would have got absolutely huge then...

Pshht, I live in Maine, the powers out more than it's on here. Only a 500 year tide and flood can rise the water high enough to get to my house, and a 100 year only makes it up to the grassline near our dock. But it's always crazy to drive over to my grandparents who live on a point and watch the storm roll into the harbor.

Surfing in a Cat 2 hurricane is akin to suicide....     surf today fo sho as it'll be sick - but when that storm approaches, i'd stay the fuck out the water...

Hurricane swell is not the time to bust out a skimboard. Skimboarding is great around the mid east coast where the waves aren't that big.

grab your mini gun and go out and charge some waves.

Anyways... The beggining of the tropical storm is kickin into NH right now... Water is heatin up to 68 Degrees with 12 foot waves recorded yesterday. Super awesome surf, i hit that shit up with some boogie boarding and body surfing. Friday-saturday is gonna be some deadly surf/riptide.. gonna killl itt!!

Yeah I don't think I would ever go swimming in hurricane swell. Maybe if I was hammered but that would be a really bad idea. At least even body boarding you have something to float with, but still being on a piece of foam in a raging ocean wouldn't be fun.

I don't think anyone surfing it will have too much of a problem. Catch some waves, then ride back in.

when I was in cali in 07 i think it was, there was a crazy swell. The newport wedge was jacking up huge. Even the beaches were seeing 8-10 in spots. And the rip left a 3+ foot ledge on the beach. the one day we just waded out and even in 2 feet of water you could feel it trying to rip your feet out.

hurricane swells though, it you go swimming, you kind of deserve to get owned.

your welcome. Shits gunna be crazy. ill probably head out to a beach on nantucket sound and watch. Kinda scarred though; my house is surrounded by dieing old trees. pretty far inland though so no flooding. ill give some eyewitness reports this weekend. maybe ill take my slr out too if its safe
