Don't think that going small on skis is going to replicate the feeling. Go a bit longer if you can. Honestly, in the end you'll be able to get more out of them.

i am 5' 8" and i'm getting 177 park skis and 185 powder skis. dont try to go so damn short. it looks dumb. (granted, im a pretty strong skier (not bragging), started at 2, and raced, so im used to long skis)

Yeah. Rockered skis looked pretty dumb for a minute too back when they first hit the slopes, but look at what's happened now.

And yes, I do rollerblade, but I am not trying to replicate the feeling....trying to do something else. hehe

Any chance someone can elaborate on the disadvantages of 145-150 cm skis? I mean like the technical reason why I shouldn't do it. Looks don't matter, I just don't wanna be edging out all over the place and have my skis break from doing jumps.

(btw, I am a park skier and I don't think I'll be hitting jumps bigger than 35-40 feet)

honestly if you looking 145-150 they will be youth skis and i wouldnt be surprised if they straight up fell apart on you. they are made for riders around or less than 100 lbs.

grow balls and get some 170+

yeah I think the biggest problem would be durability. the forces put onto the skis from a 100 lb person would be exponentially less than someone your size.

also there isn't enough surface area to support you carving or landing big jumps. bigger skis may be a bit heavier and harder to spin with but it's much easier to learn how to do that than how to land on short, unstable skis.

also, generally longer=faster.

I would recommend mid 160's to low 170's if you want short skis. im an inch shorter than you and ride 181 park skis. last year a rode 166's and they were right on the verge of being unusable on 40+ foot jumps cause they're so unstable.

Yeah I might buy the guys invaders, loookin into that....but tbh I'm not trying to be a wimp and go for smaller skis, but regardless, how big a deal would it be to ride 145's like that's 10 cm off a 155, and I hear that 155's plenty fine..? Aren't a lot of the new youth skiis built with the exact same technology as the adult skis too?

Like you guys say the skiis will fall apart and stuff, but can a 145 cm ski really be THAT unsturdy, if you guys say so and heckle me one more time I'll take your words for it...but please, I'd like to know seriously, am I going to break/snap/spin/edge out on 145cm skis? I'm sure I could learn to accomidate for this.'

The weight that a 145cm pair of skis does not quite stack up to that of a longer ski, where the stresses are displaced across a longer surface. It simply comes down to leverage.

You're more likely to break a tip, or snap a core, or delam a tip under the stress in a 145cm ski than you would in something that was 170cm. It would be a massive difference.

Think about it this way... I weigh 145ish, and I have broken a few pairs of 180+ length skis in my life... all different makes and models and widths. never the same ski twice.

You ride anything long enough, or hard enough, it will break... so the question is, do you want to risk spending your money on a pair of skis that's more susceptible to breaking? or do you want to spend the same money, or maybe a little more, on the correct length for you that will give you a more durable ski, and allow you more stability, response, performance, etc?

145s are 10 cm off a 155 yes, but that is definitely NOT plenty fine... I'm 5'6/5'7 and I'm planning on buying 173s - you being 5'10 I would think would need atleast high 170s, if not 180s. Plus, centre mounting twin tips makes them run shorter than regular skis. I guess a lot of it is personal preference, but I was riding skis that came up to about my nose (which is about how long NORMAL skis should be, but too short for twin tips), and I absolutely hated it. I always felt off balance, riding switch felt funny, and it just wasn't a good experience.

Thank you, finally a neutral reply filled with more knowledge than cockyness... hahaha (well, there's been like you and like two or three other cool dudes... haha)

Look I intend to ride, street rails, skateparks and jibs and shit on skis in general... (Like I'm not trying to do huge stunts of epic proportions...I'm looking into street rails and I think it just makes perfect sense not to use 178-180ish skis, how could those possibly be so much better?

I can understand the fact that they will give under pressure.... and that's probably where the difference is made, but a season of shredding street spots should probably destroy any good pair of skis anyways.

It seems like it's cheaper to buy smaller skis and I'd much rather buy a new pair of smaller skis every season as apposed to a large pair every other season or less.

And I'm not too concerned if shit starts breaking after a season and a bit...TBH I'm used to buying new gear always, shit happens, it's meant to be shredded.

Thanks for the input guys, some of you have really helped me in opening my opinion on this, but I am still trying to get onto some tiny planks. I'll bump this so more people can tell me to grow some more balls and tell me to be a man... hahahah

However it seems I got all the answers I was looking for, thanks bustinthejus, DingoSean, berGNARdo. I will be back in the winter with edits, and I will be on short skis!!

getting any ski in a 145 for anyone other than a child is dumb. added to the lessend durability is a higher chance that you could wheel out on landings, or pretty much any other time you get in the back seat. plus EP Pros are rockered. i am 5' 8" and have been thinking of buying a pair in 185. dont do ultra short. and why do you want really short skis?

I am gunna be riding stuff that takes a lot less impact and shock on the skis, like handrails, and handicap rails and stuff... I don't wanna say it, but I need something LIKE a snowblade...just not as gay and flimsy.... I know I know, small skis aren't the most supportive either, but come on...there's no way I am gunna ride snowblades (no disrespect at all, I'm just not into it)

I am now leaning towards the Icelantic scout...it's a 143 and I hear they are constructed so well that you wouldn't even be able to tell the ski was so short.

I am not going to buy anything without being sure it'll do the job well though... I mean I still have my Volkl Ledges, which are still 162s, but if those icelantic planks hold up as well as they've been hyped, I'd like to look into that!

Thank you, I was more or less trying to figure out if my idea would work consistent enough to have fun without worrying much about the skis falling apart or giving way underneath me.... It seems that the Icelantic Scout is exactly what I was looking for.

I'm a 5'4" chick and I ride 171 park skis and 176 powder skis.

Reasons why you shouldn't be on short skis:
Not only are short skis going to have NO flex for jibbing, they are going to be thinner making it easier to catch an edge (believe it or not) and make it harder to turn. They are also going to be a lot easier to break. A foot of your size is not meant to be mounted on a ski of that size. The pressure points are going to be at the completely wrong spots and you're going to look like a hippo on ice skates. Lastly, the longer the ski, the more balance you're going to have when you're actually on a rail. I realize you're a roller bladder, but this is a different animal.

Get a 170 and actually ski like a man, or get snollerblades, or even a snowboard for all I care. Just don't be nutsuck and buy little skis like a cluck.

i'm not trying to hate, just saying i think you would find that if you tried skis that were a normal size you would be much happier. there is a reason that people dont ski on ski blades all the time.

Even if the people are being dicks about it, they are telling you the truth. Longer skis will always be more beneficial. And I don't know what you're talking about with the skis and poles, but either way, just get longer skis, you'll be happier in the long run. I'm you're height, and I'll be riding 181s. I'm surprised people are even suggesting 170s, usually when someone's 5'9", they suggest at 180s or so.

Everyone is saying get longer skis for one reason basically. The more ski ifront and behind you have over a rail the easier it is to balance. Kinda like a counter weight in a sense to help balance yourself out. I rode 155cm skis 2 seasons ago when I was built basically how you are now. Im 6'2 now and tried riding those same skis on urban this year. Hitting the trannys and spinning on and off rails is a lot harder than I thought with shorter skis compared to my 181cm skis. Thats just my personal experience with them. You'll defiantly have a lot more give to the skis the longer they are like most people are saying and will flex a lot easier. Also the longer the ski for urban the less room there is for error to get onto the rail with more ski to work with. If you're wondering if some skis with be harder to spin the swing weight Armadas got some skis that are amazingly easy to throw around. Not much effort to spin them due to the light swing weight even at longer lengths. Those are just my opinions. If you're still thinking shorter look at the afterbang shorty in 144cm or mastermind in 147cm. Hope that helps

...I never said I will be cooler Henrik either, but I mean people think snowblades are gay, but Henrik stomps everything in them.

...I am not trying to be a 'sissy' and opt out for "easier" gear...If I was, I'd be looking for giant skiis like everyone else. I also do not give two fucks what I look like either. Talk all the shit you'd like....but 9/10 ski kids probably look like garbage bag wearing retards anyways.

I am trying to make skiing more maneuverable, and a lot more stylish for myself.... I have skied one season and it's just too basic for me to enjoy the way it is. I understand it is a completely different sport from what I am trying to get at.....but fuck anything else....I am an innovator and I will ski like I rollerblade... so everyone can fuck off while I throw fakie 5's, 7's, grinds, disasters, and some of the more technical grinds you will ever see on skiis, ever.
