Making the switch - Premiere Pro to FCP

This thread is for those who have made this switch; how different is FCP?

(Please, I've read all about FCP > Premiere, so don't tell me that. That's not what this thread is about).

The reason I'm asking is that my college store offers a sweet deal on FC Studio, and the Adobe Production suite hookup I'd get probably wouldn't be as good. I also just started using a Mac...

I know Premiere, and I know it well. Am I going to be totally clueless moving into FCP?

Thanks all.

*Side note: differences between Apple Motion and Adobe AE? I've never used either but any input is greatly appreciated.

From playing around with premier, its similar to fcp but fcp is better and you'll get used to it.

Milo + FCP = this is going to be good!

You'll get used to it really quick, once you find all the shortcuts and filters and everything you like, you'll be making even better edits.

FCP is really intuitive and pretty similar to Premiere from what I remember from using it years ago when I made the switch. The only real issues are going to be finding the same functions that just have different names under Apple vs. Adobe (i.e. filters, effects, etc.).

In terms of graphics, I hear After Effects is the way to go if you really want to get results. However, all programs within Final Cut Studio communicate VERY well with each other - you can send files between programs and they automatically update back and forth (not sure if you can do that with Adobe). I have been able to do a lot in Motion, but it gets very laborious, whereas AE is a bit more efficient, as far as I know.

FCP is great and has worked well for what i've used it. As far as other programs, motion is very data intensive, but if you have a fast computer it's a great program. If you still want to run something like after effects, everything can still work out between the two suites. I've definitely found FCS to be a little bit more aesthetically pleasing to look at and navigate, I always feel overwhelmed when I see stuff from Premiere. Compressor is also 100000x better than mpeg streamclip and is extremely simple to use. Definitely worth the switch :)

what computer are you going to be using Milos?

is it worth switching from mpeg streamclip to compressor? streamclip is just so easy... I've never tried compressor, but i have it on my mac since i have the Final Cut Studio...
What's good about compressor?

I have my new MBP, 15", 2.66gHz i7 processor with 4 gigs of RAM. She's speedy :)

And well see - my school offers FCS for $299...its tempting.

Update - I watched a couple tutorials on FCP and you guys are right, it is pretty similar. Some things about it are pretty different from Premiere - I think I may just have to take the plunge and try it, because there is no trial for it...

Question: by "Intel-based Mac", does one mean a Mac running an Intel processor but still using the Mac OS, or a Mac with an Intel processor running Windows?
