I think it happened. Either that or it's nearly complete. At least on the mainstream it's already dead.

good music hasnt died ... in fact, some of the best records i've ever heard have come out in the past 10 years. Just because you don't hear good music in the mainstream doesn't mean that good music isn't being created.

if anyone knew what the song was actually about, they'd realize it was about a specific event and not fucking metaphors. but apply it to whatever you want, even though the song has nothing to do with what you're thinking.

Well obviously the immediate thing is about febuary 3rd, the day the plane crashed but many more lines in the song are references to famous artists, songs, and events.  The birds flew off with the fallout shelter Eight miles high and falling fast
Thats clearly a reference to the byrds song "eight mile heigh"
and my favorite it "jack be nimble and jack be quick, jack flash sat on a candle stick, cause fire is the devils only friend. and as I watched him on the stage, my hands were clenched in fists of rage, no angel born in hell, could break that satans spell"
Thats just a giant reference to a event during a rolling stones concert in which a member of Hells Angels, who was hired for security, stabbed someone to death. 
The song is definatly filled with metaphor.

See the thing that irks me about the OMG lil wayne killed mainstream threads is that, mainstream hasnt been alive for a long time. Look back ten or so years, backstreet boys and nsync were the cool groups, they were trash. Go back ten more years, tone loc, mc hammer, vanilla ice, they were substance-less trash as well. You are just getting older and developing a more sophisticated musical taste. Justin Bieber and lil wayne didnt kill mainstream. Its been dead for awhile.

Nope. The day a band made a digital recording and then pressed it into vinyl, that was the day music died. Or at least never sounded the same. Its sad to know that probably at least half of my LP's were likely recorded in digital anyway so it might as well just be a cd.

Well as for your other post on mainstream being dead for a while, it has been, but it gets worse and worse. Good bands get harder to find and most people are oblivious to them.

I was just saying that mainstream music is dead. Take it as it is or "shut off"

True, popular music hit it's peak, and then has declined since. Some upswings here and there but down overall. The fact that people keep getting more retarded and close minded doesn't help either. I don't see the point of listening to a song that sounds just like the 8 million other garbage songs in that genre.

But hey, if the majority of the people dig it, it has to be good right?

True. There are def good things about it. Plus with sites like jambase and jambands, you can find shows everywhere, anywhere you go. Even if they aren't jam bands.

I just think it would have been cool to see everyone before they died or got old. but hell, at least you can still listen to the music.

This is a long ride modest mouse was a great album, and some of there other early stuff. First few radiohead albums were money, new stuff isn't bad either.

Was hoping you would drop those too. I figured I'd ask because god know what music people will say is awesome these days. thank you for not killing my hopes.

I was thinking about this the other day when I was listening to the Beatles. Like, The Beatles were popular, more popular than Jesus, and it was/is really really good music!

Same with a bunch of classics. Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, etc...

Totally mainstream, yet fucking amazing!
Some of those guys play shows today and sell out concert halls for $200 a head. Thats absurd. Who is going to be those artists from our generation? There just can't be any, its not possible because the music is shitty. Imagine lil wayne putting on a show when he's 50. No one would go.

That said, there is a ton of great music out there, but it def. does not get the exposure it deserves and thats sad. My favorite artists have only made 1 album and will probably only get the opportunity to make 2 or 3 in their careers. There just isnt enough support to sustain artists without mainstream approval.

Oh well. Here's to good music!

yes thank you for that confirmation! Ive seen Edward Sharpe 3 times now. Its amazing. Im in love with Jade. Best sober high I've ever gotten was from their show in Boulder. I biked home in a foot of snow with a smile on my face :)
