The principal attempted to speak to the student and blocked his way. The student tried to evade and then pushed the principal. The principal restrained the student. He put him in a half-nelson and took him to the office. That's where the video ends.
The news is reporting that the student received cuts and bruises and is suffering from a concussion due to an altercation that occurred after that video ended. No report of the student requiring medical attention or how they determined he had a concussion. The kid could claim to have a headache and be dizzy which are two symptoms of a concussion that are easy to fake. Cuts and bruises on the arms can happen very easily when you are trying to restrain an uncooperative individual.
The bottom line is that the principal told him to stop, the kid refused and shoved the principal first. After that initial assault by the student, the principal was simply defending himself.
