Best tip/free thing a customer has given you while at work

So any and all of you in service type jobs, what's the best tip or item a customer has given you to say thanks?

Yesterday some guy hooked up our office with free burritos for giving him a ride home, and a few weeks earlier some strange hippy gave my coworker a bottle of weed soda (medical marijuana shit from CO) to thank him.


Who's got some cool stories or free shit that they're been given?

i work at a marina and its pretty common or people to tip us with a 12 pack of beer.  other than that,  the best times are when you randomly get a 20 or doing barely anything

none of our customers come in to our office here, we only talk to them over the phone, so i dont get shit lol

and when i worked in retail a few years back people would only dish out compliments, they wouldnt actually give us anything

When I was a river guide, I had Harry Connick Jr. in my boat. He gave me tickets to his show later that night, and gave me a shout-out from the stage as he talked about his experience on the river.

when i used to work on a tree farm (christmas) i would load the trees onto peoples cars. one year, a family of polish people came through and they were basically the only ones there, so they set up this massive picnic, roasted polish sausages over the fire, drank alot of this honey liquor that was polish, yadda yadda. anyway, since we wre so slow, they invited us to eat and drink with them, and when they finally got there tree they left a 20$ tip for the person who tied it down. just a feel good story.

I gave a dude an extra days ski hire for free and when he came back at the end of the day he gave me a nug. the dude was about 40, it was epic.

I gave another chick free snowboard hire, then saw her out that night and hooked up. so technically the sex could count as a tip.

these other people bought the shop doughnuts because we made their kids laugh.

fuck i loved working in a hire shop.

oh and working in the 4 seasons at whistler this rich dude was tripping balls and gave everyone in the shop 50 bucks. literally took 20 grand out of his pocket in 50's.

i work at a bike/ski shop and the service guys down stairs always get the hook up. some rich guy comes in to get his bike fixed all the time and nick always gets his shit done fast and quick for him. so they kinda had a friendship thing goin. well the guy asked him if he road rides. which nick didnt but wanted to get into really bad but he didnt have the money to buy a road bike. The guy said you know what one you want? I'll buy it for you. So nick got a free specialized roubaix elite which normally costs like 2 grand but as an employee he got it for close to 1 thousand. so the guy wrote him a check for 1 thousand and now he's got a sick road bike

I worked for a friend of my dad. He's the kind of guy who has done well for himself in life, and likes to flash his cash, has a large house, and an office annex built on to the side. I was sorting through boxes of paperwork one day at the house, and found a fountain pen in amongst all the files. It looked fairly expensive, so thought I'd take it to him, in case he was looking for it. He told me about how he'd bought it like 10 years ago, etc, and asked me if I wanted it. I did. Long story short, I'm still writing with it to this day.

My family friends own Rosebuds, rated the top italian restaurant in the country many years in Chicago. As a kid, I used to eat there 1 or 2 times a week, and one dinner, NSYNC was there... woopdedoo. But they tipped the waiter, one of the oldest sons, one of the cars they were driving. If I remember correctly, I believe it was an Audi.

When I was a ski instructor this guy with a mentally handicapped wife gave me a 30 dollar tip for doing such a good job with her. She was a natural so it was super easy to teach her. Best tip I've ever gotten.

I work at an ice cream place and one late, not so crowded night this kid gave me about 15 bucks for being an Armenian because he was too! And this past Monday I got several bucks for taking the time to make sure the sorbets had no dairy, for cleaning the scoops we use, and for getting a new bag of sprinkles because one of the customers was allergic to dairy. Not ridiculously huge amounts, but I'm always happy for a few extra bucks and it's great when I feel like I've actually worked for it.

When i was instructing in japan this crazy rich aussie chick (she had just sold her lamboi cuz she got bored of it) took a weeks worth of lessons from me and when i saw her out and about drinking on the town she kept buying me drinks and would drop a couple hundred on me ever time she saw me. It sucked cuz on the last day that I was supposed to be teacher her I got an Appendicitis and couldn't teach and I was expecting a fatty tip....

I was helping an adaptive skier at my local indoor slope, as I was interested in it, as my sister's disabled, I mentioned this and he offered to give her private lessons, as well as giving her his old adaptive ski for her race training. Not a gift for me necessarily, but still the nicest thing that I've ever seen done.

last year when I was working landscaping for my uncle I had to landscape this guy's yard for him that took literally the entire day. had to take out a huge bunch of grass and place in 4 trees take out a whole heap of rocks and replace it with mulch. it was one of the hardest days that I had to do all summer and we were there from 8 in the morning till 8 at night. When we were finally packing everything up the guy who owned the house came up to me and this illegal I was working with and gave us each a hundred dollar bill. He also gave the illegal guy a beer but I couldn't take one because my uncle would have told my parents. Overall though it was super chill to walk out of there with a hundie in the wallet.

Used to work at drycleaners and one day some guy came in and dropped off his clothes and then returned to his car as per usual, but ended up coming back in and giving me and my friend who I worked with two free tickets to the NBA conference finals in an envelope. Turns out they were face valued at like $325 a pop and were second row seats and included free VIP parking. It was a pretty good time.

^^yupp, i also work at a marina in the summer on the gas dock, and when super rich guys come in with their big ass boats and yatchs to fill up, they generally tip you very very very well ;)

I was paid by a rich neighbor to stack his wood for 4 hours one weekend. he was supposed to pay me $90 and ended up paying me $130, so I made a $40 tip I guess.

worked at a car wash last summer. it was one of the hottest days of the year and i was stuck outside drying cars for like 3 hours. so this dude pulls out of the car wash, and gives each of us an ice-cold can of sprite.
may not seem like much, but i was so grateful.

10 bucks for helping a guy fix his Thule. it was very easy work.

Then there are times when i will be out in the freezing cold, for like half an hour putting on a thule and just get a 'thanks". one time this bitch was yelling at me because i tracked mud from the parking lot into her car. should whipped that shit everywhere had i known i wouldnt get a tip.

one day his dad took me, him, and another friend to Trump to golf  (i dont even know how to golf, i just whack it)
so he gets this caddy that he knows. the guys kinda weird, in his mid 20s, kinda of a bum.
anyway, my friends dad just pays him a flat $200 to drive around in the carts with us, fuck around, and teach the dad how to play golf (there are pros for that but he just used the caddy....)

That's awesome.

My Grandpa is kind of rich. He went to Notre Dame for his 50th anniversary alumni thing and they had a guide who was a senior at ND, every time they saw the guide, he would tip the guide 50 bucks, they saw him 3 times a day. That's 150 bucks a day for a week, 1050 dollars for walking 2 old people around, pretty solid I'd say.

This past weekend was my first time caddying and a round on our golf course takes about 4 hours. So I get this guy that's with his friends. His two friends are driving the golf cart and he's walking so I'm only caddying for him. Well I do the round and give his friends measurements about twice each. In the end, my guy gave me 40 and his two friends each gave me 20 each. I thought that was pretty good.

when i was 13 my friend and i raked leaves in town for cash. one house gave us three dollars. three dollars for both of us after raking their entire lawn and disposing the leaves. three fucking dollars. it was okay though because one house in town gave us a 50 to split
