Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., blamed the Bush administration for any lack of oversight leading up to the Gulf oil spill. The Obama administration, on the other hand, is blameless.

From Talk Radio News Service:

“Many of the people appointed in the Bush administration are still burrowed in the agencies that are supposed to oversee the [oil] industry,” Pelosi said when asked if Democrats could have prevented or mitigated the crisis by keeping a closer watch on the industry.

Added the Speaker, “the cozy relationships between the Bush administration’s agency leadership and the industry is clear…I’ve heard no complaints from my members about the way the president has handled it,” Pelosi stated.

On Friday, the Washington Examiner requested that Speaker Pelosi’s office release the list of Bush appointees to whom she was referring. We’ll let you know when we hear back.

considering Haliburton's failure to produce quality cement work on the oil well's cap was a cataylizing error in the disaster . In a twisted complicated manner -fingers could be pointed at the Bush administration. I don't agree with it but I see where people could draw that conclusion.

Actually you could partially and indirectly blame the Bush Administration. Because they made it so much easier for oil companies to form relationships with government officials, which in turn made it easier for them to get or waive the permitting processes. However, if you want to blame the Bush Administration, you'd also have to blame Obama, Clinton, H.W. Bush, etc., because they did the same thing.

no problem with you, i am just sick of all this obama-bashing. you guys* have finally a president with whom you regained your international credibility and who is actually trying to move things. he is going his own way, not the way of popularity, he is clearly not working for his reelection. here in austria, you hear NOTHING from the chancellor or president, they are just quiet and try to avoid mistakes. a year before elections, they pass two popular laws and thats it. i would take an "obama-guy" (who tries something and fucks up once in a while) over that anyday.

but i guess you guys* want some war-starting, oil-lobby-cock-sucking fucker at the top. before ahmadinejad, bush was the clown of every international meeting.

so i cant go to africa right now. but i am in austria, and obama is the fucking man. he is in the papers nearly every day and most times its something positive. i believe that he WANTS to help the people and is not only working for his reelection and this is something incredibly admirable for a politician, regardless of the outcome (and if you say he fucks shit up, i would say that we wait 5-10 years to see how his measurements did, ok).

and you are right, his image is (at least partially) what it is because he is black. but you are misinterpreting this fact imo. "we" (as an international society/observer) are not admiring the fact that he is black but the fact that america can jump over the shadows of their past and elect a black president.

See, here's how it should work in America. America elect the most qualified individual, he helps our country, we re-elect him so he can do it again. Obama is not the most qualified individual, not even close. He's a senator of little renown from Illinois. He really hasn't done much, other than be elected president.

He is number one because he was the front-runner. Oil companies (and every other big lobby) donate to EVERYONE, making sure to have all their bases covered. That's one reason why the Republicans and Democrats don't have huge ideological differences, but rather focus on petty divisive issues.

Illinois is one of the top ten most populated states in the US, so he certainly has more qualifications than those Tea Bagger's idol - Palin. She was the governor of one of the most desolate states in the US yet people honestly think she could be a better leader than Obama. But back to being on subject yes oil companies like many other corporations funded Obama's campaign but in truth it was the internet-funding/propaganda that swung the 2008 presidental election not BP's money.

ok, you are right about how IT SHOULD work. but i think in regard of human incompetence when it comes to anything, it would awesome if one of the 1000 most qualified guys would be upfront.

honestly, i cant tell how qualified obama is. but i am afraid that no presidential candidate has practical experience in this area since you cant be like the president of canada and then come to the US and do it here again. so everyone started somewhere lower.

if i remember correctly, i remember how you battled for your life with some other guy in a thread how rich your parents are. of course you dont like obama. [insert crying baby here] because he takes all your money and gives it to crack junkies. unless you show me that you are better than what you put on display in that other thread, i am afraid i dont give a shit on your opinion.

I have never supported the bush administration, but that is just a stupid thing to say. First, I find it stupid that our government is still trying to blame this on someone instead of putting more effort twards stopping the leak. Second, who cares if there are members of our government who were under the bush administration? They arent anymore, and its not like we can just assume that they are gonna make the same mistakes

I am just here to point out the the Washington Examiner is a conservative paper. When I Google'd the quotes, all I found were links to other stories in other conservative papers.

Does this mean that these papers are making something out of nothing? Or that more liberal outlets chose to omit the story because they know it was incredibly stupid?

In all honesty, I don't know. I consider myself to be pretty liberal, and I think (if this quote is taken in context, and is true) it was a dumb thing to say.
