Dr. NS/ anyone who's had mono, PLEASE HELP ME

-earaches
-extremely soar throat
-hurts so bad every time i swallow
-headaches
-mass production of disgusting saliva and mucus
-swollen glands
-sore body everywhere
-sleepy 24/7 yet cannot sleep because to much discomfort(to put it lightly)
-havnt eaten since sunday, everytime i try i barf it up right away. ive lost 5 pounds

i need any tips, anything at all that will help me get through it easier. especially the earaches and sore throat part, they are killing me. Also, how can i clear my nose, it seems to NEVER EVER be clear, blowing it doesnt work and horking is painful after 1000 times a day.

I am desperate

Get HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH. Also I had Mono once and it was fine. I actually enjoyed a couple weeks of not having to do anything.

i think what i did was put vicks underneath my nose than stood over boiling water and then i was able to blow all the shit out of my nose. not sure if that makes sense, but i am pretty sure it worked for me when i had mono at an early age

good luck i lost 20lbs and was skinny to start with

you can't clear your nose, learn to deal with it. take tylenol PM or some OTC sleep aide. and go see a real fucking doctor! they can prescribe you shit that will at least make you feel more comfortable and be able to eat.

thats an amazing idea im gonna try that shit right away.

and the doc gave me some antibiotics that will kill it slowly but not make me feel better, and some stuff to gargle that doesnt work at all

i'm sitting on my couch with mono right now. its awful. i have all the same things and nothing works. ive tried anti-inflammatories, musinex, every type of cold medicine, and there really is no helping it. I've heard that all you can do is sleep but i can't even sleep cuz of the swollen glands and a huge earache. i can't even breathe out of my nose and it hurts to swallow. all ya can do is rest...... :(

the vicks stuff and hot steam didnt work for me, already tried it. and my doctor must suck cuz she wouldnt give me anything, said there was nothing they could do for mono, i just had to wait it out and take over the counter shit

if you and the OP have nausea so bad that you can't hold down food for days, there's no reason your doc shouldn't be willing to give you an anti-nausea prescription at the least. yes, its true that nothing cures mono, but that doesn't mean you can't at least address the symptoms.

im not nauseous thank god. but everything else is aweful. i didnt go to school monday, wed, today, and probs not tomorrow. i went on tuesday and it was a bad idea. i want it to go away fast tho! i supposed to be going somewhere this weekend :(

dude just chill out and dont move... i wouldnt recommend eating anything but i doubt you even want to eat/drink cuz the throat pain sucks so bad. the only thing that helped me when i had mono was puffin, its rough as hell smokin with a bad throat but once your high you dont feel shit. just sayin.

I had it during the winter, go to the doc and ask about some steroids for your throat. My doc gave me some and I was feeling fine after a few days.

Yo if you are going to do this, put some clove or peppermint in the boiling water, helps a lot. Then put your head over the water and a towel over your head and the water to keep all the steam in.

Also those throat steriods are the shit I get tonsilitus a lot and thats the one thing that always does it for me.

Definitely go to the doctor. Two years ago I had mono and strep at the same time and it was the worst two weeks of my life, they had to give me steroids so my throat wouldn't close up and I think two different antibiotics. Like the other guy said, the steroids help A TON. But don't wait, that shit sucks, go to the doctor.

the first two words in the first response are legit. if throat is too sore, then eat edibles or vape. it will definitely ease many of your listed symptoms.

duude, i know some things that might work.. they worked for me

i1.) if you dont know what a "Neti Pot" is google it and find somewhere were you can get it. it's like tea kettle you pour into your nose and the water ( with other stuff )  pours out the other side. and it gets rid of everything inside you nose. my mom just got me a neti pot becasue i am currenty sick, works wonders. i can breathe clearly through my nose right now.

2.) get vick's cold rub or what ever its called and rub it on your neck and under your nsoe helps you breathe. pretty much the best.

3.) i was thinking of somthing but then i forgot... hmmm. ill post if i remember.

i use to get sick almost once a month for a week at a time then i got my tonsils removed and i have been sick probably three times for a day at a time over the past three years. so my advice is make an appointment to get your tonsils removed, yes i know you cannot get mono more than once, but a weeks worth of pain from the surgery is better than being sick often especially when you are in university.

THISTHISTHIS! was number 3. i had my toncils out, im glad i never got sick in ski season. this is the first time i have been sick since i got them out.

I had mono, really wasn't bad at all for me, all I had was a minor soar throat and fatigue for around 2-3 months.

Yeah this one time I had mono for like 9 years but then I realized you could switch it to stereo with the remote. Pretty legit, I always used to think The Simpsons was a Spanish show.

this is prolly going on a limb but have you ever heard of a neti pot. iyou pour water with this salt type stuff in it through your nose and then all the snot just comes flushing out. pretty damn nasty but it works.

other than dehydrating you a ton, and obviously hurting ur throat, like everything does, are there any reasons why I shouldn't drink while i have mono... which is right now haha. or am i good to go for the weekend?

i had it lasted a couple weeks, i had all the same symptoms as you. for the ear aches my mom bought some ear drops and they like numbed the pain or something (all i know is after they were in i didnt have anymore ear pain). the nose thing i just dealt with it. i wish i would have used a neti pot or this other thing that does the same thing as a neti pot but it is more explosive. what i did to help with the nose was to sleep with my head on like 3 pillows so during the night the snot would run out of my sinuses. thats about it, i bit you good luck i lost 20lbs. oh for your sore throat you can buy some throat spray that numbs your throat.
