I know repost, thread has been made before, blah, I don't care.
I have been riding bmx forever and have only ridden a bike with gears probably less than five times for less than 100 feet haha. This summer I need a mode of transportation to get me to work and I am not riding my bmx there. I want a road bike but have no clue what to look for. Ideally, I don't want to spend a lot of money (I know people buy top of the line bikes from the 1970s and 80s for really cheap and they work great). This is especially because I will be bringing it back to college with me and want something that I don't really care if it gets trashed or won't be too down if someone steals it (the shittier the bike looks the less chance it will be stolen). I don't care what it looks like- I will probably paint it and slap bmx stickers on it but don't really know what features to look for. I certainly don't want a fixie or single speed either.
So recommend me something that I can find new for cheap or what to look for in a used bike. What features should I look for? What brands and models would you recommend? Or make an offer if you have one to sell (I know not B/S/T). I don't want to spend more than $150. I'm 6'2" 170lbs, pretty aggressive rider, and love to bomb hills full speed haha.
Thanks and +k for legit answers
