A lot of you guys over here probably didn't hear about this, but salomon released a dangerous product that ended up seriously injuring a guy i know, causing him to almost lose his leg. It had to do with a technical issue on a touring boot, but if you could check this out and give him some support, that'd be great. please don't let this turn into a "fuck you, i love salomon" thread. it's not about that. they have some great products that i was very interested in next year, as did atomic, a sister company, but they dropped the ball on these and have lost a lot of people trust on TGR especially, myself included. again, i do not hate salomon, i do not need to hear people defending salomon, and i challenge you to keep this thread positive. dalton, the guy who got injured, could really use the good vibes. i respect you if you don't agree with my position, that's fine. i would just really appreciate it if this could stay positive. and please, if this somehow violates your rules here, i would really like a response from a mod on why this needed to be deleted. salomon released a recall announcement of some sort, admitted a "possible" problem (look at the info, it's a lot more positive than possible), so i would really be thrilled if this stays, i just want to give dalton a hand in a tough time. thanks for listening.

We do appreciate your initiative, and we propose you to answer to the questions that are asked by this page's friends in regards to this situation. We are currently focusing our resources and energy on return of the products ...and investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the potential incompatibility. Mike Aicher, our product specialist and Nick Papailiou and myself will try to be as informative as possible in regards to the legal guidances we must respect. But most importantly, we'd like to re-iterate that we regret the accident which happened to Dalton. recently posted on the facebook page. goes to show why something like this is important.

Salomon messed up and put a very unsafe and apparently untested product on the market, seriously injuring a good dude. The tech binding inserts in their Quest AT boots deform easily, causing the skier to unexpectedly release and presenting a very dangerous situation. Please think twice before buying anything from Salomon or their sister companies of Amer Sport, Atomic, Mavic, Suunto, Arc'teryx, Wilson, and Precor. this makes no sense to me if salomon fucked up why say dont buy from Amer sports, Atomic, Mavic, Suunto, Arc'teryx, Wilson, and Precor

What's all the fuss about? New product was released, found to be faulty and is now being recalled. This stuff happens all the time in every industry, including a Marker binding a few years ago and the recent Toyota stuff. Someone fill me in?

I've been on a successful boycott of Salomon for about 7 or 8 years now after they wouldn't warranty (one of two) warped Cusson's I'd bought new at full retail price. They kept my ski at the Salomon store in Whistler for a few months and never even bothered sending the ski in. I felt they ignored me because I was young (18-19) and in the jib ski market and what appread minor made the ski ride really wonky. It would get speed wobbles at low speeds of +60 Km/h

Since then I've avoided buying or using any Salomon product and made efforts to bitch about it on the internet.

Since 03' I've bought 4 new sets of skis, 2 sets of boots, 2 sets of bindings, 2 sets of poles, ect

Non-of it has been Salomon

the boots that put a guy nearly in the position of losing his leg were salomon quests. if you know about dynafit bindings you would know its a unique style of binding that holds your foot it with a clamp at the toe. two pointy things clamp onto the sides of the toe piece into special inserts. this guy was skiing on mt washington, and both boots inserts gave out, was ejected from his skis onto ice and destroyed his leg .

new product was released before it's due time, before sufficient testing had been done OR with the knowledge of testing that the insert was faulty (even worse in my book). this should have been easily caught in the testing stages, before someone was seriously injured by it.

Yeah I understand that. But I highly doubt Salomon would knowingly release a faulty product. Not enough testing, more likely. A bad move, sure. But why 15 pages on TGR and a Facebook group? What is all the discussion about? Salomon are recalling it. They're doing exactly what should be done. Again, am I missing something?

they haven't owned up to it. they are still using the term "potential incompatibility" to refer to the situation. do you not understand what's going on? i'm far to lazy at this point to dig through all the info, but a tester, before these were released, using these boots with dynafit bindings in alaska had a similar failure that did not result in injury (lucky). if you looked at the info from lou dawson, he performed rudimentary tests that easily revealed the boot's flaw, and compared them to an insert using dynafit's own, which were nowhere near failing. there's nothing "potentially incompatible", salomon either did not perform the necessary testing to make these safe to market, or released them anyway despite knowing about the issue (gross negligence).

We respect your opinions, but it is also fair to say that as a company being in the ski industry for more than 60 years and born with alpine bindings, the safety of the skiers is our top priority. As of we were informed about the accident we have acted upon the information by publishing the safety notice on the different blogs (Lou's and TGR's) as ... See Morea precautionary measure.

We never stop working on the technical development of our products. We investigate the case, which unfortunately takes time because if there's an official standard (ISO 9523) for ski boots in use with alpine bindings, there are no standards related to the steel fittings in all terrain boots.

When we'll have sufficient details, we will release them upon approval from the authorities. As you know, because of the recall action we launched and the legal procedure, we cannot talk directly to Dalton nor release any specific information to the ski community.

OK, well they are recalling it now, right? Sounds like they're taking some steps. Personally I like their alpine boots and will continue to buy them. Boycotting a company (let alone boycotting a company's affiliated brands) because of something this sounds pretty extreme, that's all.

that's obviously your decision. recalling a product when faced with this type of adversity is a step any company would take, it really doesn't say a whole lot about what they are actually thinking. what it doesn't sound like you get is that this is not a normal injury related to a normal product failure. it was a highly avoidable product failure, and caused this guy to almost lose his leg, while skiing down a mellow slope at low speeds. before buying more salomon products, i'd advise you to take a look at the links and stuff on the facebook page, some of them do a good job of explaining what happened. there are plenty of other boots out there that are just as good or better than salomon, regardless of what type of foot you have. the idea behind a boycott is to pressure the company into doing what's right, that's what we're trying to accomplish.

so don't join the boycott then. It doesn't mean that ectreeskier is in the wrong for throwing his support behind a good dude who may not be able to ski again as a result of this tragedy. It sounds as though Salomon is responding positively, so this "childish" action may end up saving lives. I'm not necessarily going to boycott either but I fully support these guys in what they are doing. You seen the x-ray on TGR? That shit is nasty. And it didn't have to happen. Until a full inquiry is launched we have no idea if the company tested properly or not. Everyone is making assumptions at this point. Again, vibes to TC and hope the recovery going well.

I would be posting this stuff on TGR but I got pissed at that place when Blurred faked his death on April fools.

Yeah I get it all but starting an online boycott petition thing seems pretty lame to me. Did they actually start the recall in response to a load of messages on the internet? Surely this should have been dealt with simply by the injured guy (an if necessary his lawyers) contacting Salomon directly. Seems like people just want to discredit Salomon here.

For sure it sucks that a guy got badly hurt as a result of Salomon not testing enough but like I said I will continue to buy their boots because they work for me best with minimal work required. Equally I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Toyota pickup just because their Prius models had problems, or a Marker Jester because one of their track bindings had problems.

BAm Bam, power in numbers bro, i dont know about you, but if this happened to me i would be very grateful that these skiing communities had my back and are trying to get the truth out there. if u dont agree fine, then pepople probably wont have your back if some shit goes down.

and fyi the news in the area reported he slipped on ice and was seriously injured. so if it was left at that it seems like  nothing would come from it.

I think you took what I said wrongly, or maybe I worded it wrongly. Publicly suggesting a boycot of a brand or group's products isn't the right approach to deal with stuff like this. It should be left to the laywers and I'm sure Salomon will be held accountable and necessary action taken. It sounds like there's way too much speculation over what actually happened, how much testing was done, what standards were (if any) in place for that part and if those were stuck to. There's so much involved and it's not for the public to judge.

BamBam, a boycott is THE best way to handle these things.

Salomon is a major corporate power with access to major financial backing. The ONLY thing that will motivate them to do the right thing is to pressure them with financial constraints.

Money is the only language corporations speak. They don't speak compassion and caring; they speak bottom line.

Affect their bottomline, and they will do what's right.

If you want to continue to support Salomon after thinking about the issue and both sides, that is totally ok and understandable.

You know what, I'm sad and angry.

Sad for Dalton first, as we all are at Salomon. Sad as everytimes something bad happens to one of the member of the ski community, because we are first and foremost skiers, who are going out to have fun, not to get hurt.

Then angry because we could do the same than all the companies involved in such cases are ... See Moredoing, whatever the type of businesses, I mean "no comment attitude". You know why they stay silent and don't communicate? Because after a few days, everything calm down. How many posts this week on TGR's forum and Lou's blog on Dalton's accident and the Quest Pros's insert?
I am very conscious that everytime we are talking or answering, we revive the fire and give more visibility to what happened. This is what every lawyer tells you. We know that, and this thread is the proof.
We have choosen another path which is to communicate... what we can communicate and we'll continue to do so. Because we think that it will serve the sport and the skiers, our reason of being.

If i sent an email to botox headwear or whoever your pimping in your sig saying there is some guy promoting your product posting stupid shit on the web and I won't be buying any. Well now they know they lost a potential customer, if a few thousand people send that email well the odds of something happening are gonna be greater.
The fact that marketing brah John Luc Ponty is posting damage control on FB is proof the message is being heard.
I personally don't ski Snowbird because I don't want Dick Bass taking my $$$$ and ecco raping a pristine
AK watershed with a strip mine, but unless I send that message they may think I don't spend $$$ there cause that shit gets tracked faster than  junkie that just won lotto arms (winky).
I don't see how bad publicity is going to do anything but help D and encourage them to do the right thing.
i'ts also gonna encourage them to do better product testing.  I'm pretty sure they are looking to tap into the earn your turn market with a touring binder which hopefully gets better testing than this boot.
which is a win win IMO

aside from the fact that i wholeheartedly believe salomon fucked up bad here, and that i want to do everything possible to support dalton, i sincerely hope they fix this because a salomon AT binding is something i am very interested in. that's NOT to say if salomon makes a mockery of the situation i will be buying anyway, but if they make it right and appear to be putting in the work something like an AT binding needs, and the way i trust salomon will, it's something i will probably be buying.
