In the market for a Pickup truck.. help NS.

title says it, im in the market for my first pickup truck. never had a vehicle, never really been into vehicles, so really dont know shit. was hoping someone on here could help me out.

ill start with the basics. I have about $5000-$8000 to work with. I am getting a loan so the newer the truck the better in terms of the bank letting me do this. I want to eventually be towing around a sled in the back so was wondering if I need an extended bed or if standard is enough? Do I need a 4X4 truck or is a 2X4 alright? I would prefer to have an extra seat in the back for friends but dont want a 4 door just 2 door is fine. Ive been looking around and trucks that are fitting my taste are F-150 obviously, Dodge dakota sports, or tacomas.

help a brother out what should I be getting?

Specific Dodge and GM models you should look at are the Sierra/Silverado 1500s and the Ram 1500s. With the GM trucks youll get an option of a 4.8L V8 or a 5.3L V8. Both engines are pretty much identical power wise so you dont need to worry about those.

I dont know much about the Dodges...

But a word of the wise about getting a diesel...you will have to plug it in during the winter if its not garaged and sitting for awhile.

Try and look for 1999 or newer, the pre 1999 trucks tend to love gas.

toyotas are comletely out of the question. they may last long but they are mad expensive.

ive narrowed it down to dodge ram 1500 or a similiar GMC but havent looked too much into them.

Is it just me or is it hard to find a regular box on trucks oposed to short box. everyone has a fucking short box its stupid.

Dude last year I bought a 98 t100 6 cyl 4wd for just around 10 grand, I'm sure you can find something close to that for your price.

my bad didn't see you were from canuckistan, I've heard the yotas go for even more up there. On the bright side though you can get a diesel, unlike us here in the states. Let me just use this space to say FUCK YOU to whoever is lobbying to keep yota diesels out of the US.

Everyone is going to bitch about what truck will last longer, and what ones have more problems. Well they all have their own problems. Buy a toyota and you can poke your finger through the frame, buy a dodge and buy a spare transmission with it. buy a ford and watch it catch on fire.

That being said any truck can hold a sled in the back even something small like a ranger or tacoma, i have put a 2up long track in my Dakota, drop the tailgate and strap it in. You want 4x4 because if you don't you wont go anywhere on a powder day.  The best thing to do is look at reviews on trucks and go to a dealer and test some used trucks out good luck

Way to let five years of bad frame coating completely sway your opinion on a truck. I've dug an 85 yota out of a field in northern maine after sitting for a year, bitch fired right up and you definately couldn't put your finger through the frame. My tacoma had a huge rust hole, but of course toyota bought it back at a premium price and I no longer have to worry about it. Don't act like yotas aren't more mechanically reliable than the domestics.

well... to defend toyota here... on my 72 gmc, i can put an arm into the cab from outside.
i love my truck though... rust isnt that bad, at the end of the day, i get 13mpg, can go wherever i want, and look tough doing it. which is really why you buy a truck... lol
