Editing software help
ok so i have a bit of a problem. I just got a new imac and final cut pro 7 and i cant get all my footage off my old computer and into final cut. previously i was on a PC running Adobe Premiere Elements 7 and all my files are AVCHD (.mts) and mac and final cut don't support AVCHD unless i capture the footage off the camera. Does anybody know a way I can use Premiere Elements 7 or any other free software to convert my mts files to Quicktime or any other mac-native format?
try mpeg streamclip

thanks guys, i solved it. i used handbrake and quicktime pro.
wait, i have another problem. so i converted all the footage to h.264 mp4 through handbrake and then converted that to .mov using quicktime but FCP 7 says error whenever i try to import the files. I have tried using quicktime with the h.264 compression and the Apple ProRes 422 (the format FCP converts my files into when i log and transfer off my camera) in both high quality and regular but still no luck.
