I feel very fortunate

I have been skiing since I was 3 years old and it has always given me a feeling unlike any other I could ever find. Its complete freedom. Everything that is worrying me fades away as soon as my skis touch the snow. Until this year I have really taken our great sport for granted. I'm very lucky to have Mt. Hood as my home mountain after going to the east coast and midwest and seeing what they make do with. But yet the people in those areas still find the same feeling I find on my larger mountain with more opportunities. This sport is truly amazing and as the season is winding down for most people I think we should really take a second and realize how blessed we are all to have an opportunity to participate in this sport that, for me, is beyond a sport. Its a lifestyle.

Thinking about this further, it's funny how life turns out really.

This time 5 years ago, I was thinking of taking up snowboarding instead of riding groomers on skis all day, and was going to do a history degree. Now, skiing and economics are the reasons I get up in the morning.

It's strange to think how different life could actually be...

i couldn't agree more. for me snowboarding does the exact same thing it takes my mind off of everything. all the stress all the bullshit from the real world fades away when I'm on the mountain. its an unbelievable feeling that i could never get from anything else and i wouldn't trade it for anything.

i wish my season didnt end like 3 weeks ago

nice post though, i feel the same way. ya i live on the east coast and there arent a bunch of huge mountains and unreal amounts of powder, but i still love it. and whenever i do get to ride some pow, i just enjoy it that much more.

yea i didnt really love skiing til this year. i liked it and went like a good 20 times and just watched ppl hit park and i would do a flat box or something but when i got into it it juts made me want more. i just wanted to b more than a groomer kid i wanted a next level. this next level put everything into perspective and when i go my 50 or 60 times ( in the east ) it makes me forget about my life outside that... i could b the most hated kid in school but when u meet up with ppl at the mtn and click in ur bindings to stomp a new trick or just a joy ride any where on a sloped surface it makes u smile and hope that the moment wont end. this is wat its about.

deep dude. i totally agree. the only other feeling that even comes close to the feeling i get from skiing, is wakeboarding. nothing else. not even microwave bean burritos

Same here man, live in NY and rarely see pow days, when I went on a vacation to CO for 8 days, and skied the pow their, it was the best days of my life. Ive honestly never skied like that before, I stayed in the park 90% of the time because the rest of the mtn is terrible, but skiing that powder made me look at skiing at a totally different way. Now Im looking into a college out West because of those 8 days (and of course to learn, sorta). Those runs in the back bowls in CO made me feel like a part of the nature around me, and I remember this quote from a skier; "You don't fight the mountain, you flow with it, be a part of it." I really hope I get to go to a college out West and experience those endless pow runs as often as I can. Skiing is my life , I think about it almost every day, from the moment I wake up to the moment I sleep. It may be weird, but it has become my life

yo same for me from ny and had an incredible trip out west this year and im applying to school out west cuz those awesome days skiing make life feel awesome even watching those gaper day edits make me feel great and wanna get out there with my friends and just ski with no worries
