It shouldn't be so easy for people to get drivers licenses...

It has been proven to me over and over again that people should meet a higher criteria in order to get a driver's license. any thoughts?

Shit happens. I failed my first time because the driver's ed car had this super loose e-braked that hardly worked. I did a hill start, put the e-brake down, but it was just one click up. I didn't notice the light in the dash, and continued to correctly parallel park and the j turn or whatever. I finished the test then the instructor told me I couldn't pass because the ebrake was on the whole time. Fucking bullshit, that handle all the way up barely slowed the car down. On another note, I think in Finland they require car control in snow, learning how to correct oversteer in inclement conditions. That would wean a large amount of drivers.

haha, probably doesn't help that past 11pm you can be pretty sure that whoever is on the road is drunk or stoned

I was just looking at the link in the colorado driver thread, VT ranks 18th for best drivers. I think if you are a good driver, you always look at how other people drive and think they suck. I'm from VT and i consider myself a pretty good driver. I drove a 26ft Penske truck packed with 10,000+ pounds of machinery from PA without a problem, first time ever driving something that big. The only thing about VT is you don't have to deal with traffic, so if you go to NYC it sucks. But when it comes to driving on snow, dirt, or ice, I think we do pretty well.

some of us are alright but its true the majority of Vermonters don't know what to do if there are more than 3 cars on the road at once.

When I had my learners permit (I.E. someone had to be sitting next to me), I was doing deliveries for my dad's company.

Pretty fucked, driving a huge Diesel F-350, with a 40ft trailer, packed with all kinds of shit, to Nova Scotia and back, with a 5 A.M. deadline.

Those were the days.

people need to get around, car companies are too big, the government likes car money, oil/gas sales, therefore it will never be hard to get a license, but it should be. so many chinks on the road who cant drive

Think of the cost of hiring all of these extra people, it would be huge. Plus it would be a major pain in the ass, in canada we already have 3 separate tests to get our full licenses and honestly, if the original testing people did their jobs properly, then there should be no reason to retest every 5 or 10 years.
