just watched the last episode with desmond coming back to island, just wondering what some other people were thinking the outcome or meaning of the show may be?

desmond seems to be immune (or has a high resistance) to electro magnetic shit. im thinking since the locke smoke monster cant pass through the electromagnetic fences, and because it is always flashing on the inside, that it itself is electro magnetic. could desmond be the weapon to destroy locke? is that the talent widmore was talking about?

outcome of the show: good vs. evil, final battle, Locke vs. Jacob (AKA Jack now), Desmond must be immune to Locke in his black smoke form (he resists strong magnetic fields). Whitmore/Jack use Desmond to defeat Locke. I'm guessing Locke either loses, or the cycle of bringing more people to the Island to prove the innate good in humanity continues once again. I'm guessing that after Locke is defeated, everyone on the island kind of disappears, and the alternate universe (where they never go to the island and everyone is happy) becomes the only reality.

damn, basically what i just said, thought too long on a reply. but yeah Desmond is "special" and i think now he realizes it (after peering into his alternate reality). The smoke either breaks down if it tries to attack him, or is unable to harm him.

i was starting to think that the recent "flashbacks" have been what their lives would be like if they didnt crash, so they were all destined to meet anyway like now how desmond is trying to find everyone. thats just my thoughts idk if it makes sense to anyone else

Yeah the fence uses high frequency sound waves (sonar), but the Island does not affect radio waves or electromagnetic waves. This is true because no matter what time or location the island was at, the Dharma Initiative was able to communicate with the outside world without time lapse. Widmore had separate pylons on the beach when he met Locke, these differed from Dharma's fence. The toroids that Widmore setup were to prove Desmond's resistance to electomagnetism (hence the Gauss gauge on the machine). It's still safe to assume Desmond will destroy the man in black.

Yeah that makes perfect sense. In the most recent episode, Daniel explained how his quantum equations made it appear that some huge release of energy (the nuke) altered their reality. Juliet mentioned before she died that setting off the bomb "worked", meaning everyone got off the island (appearing as the alternate timeline in the show). The question that remains is whether the alternate timeline will merge with the timeline of the people currently on the island, or if the latter will disappear altogether. Desmond realizes something wonderful has happened, the Island has given him the answer to give meaning to his life (Penny) and wants to find everyone to share the experience.

If you have stuck with it from the beginning, it is just a huge puzzle. There are so many clues and hints in the show, so you can figure some stuff out, but never the whole picture. As the show has evolved, some things get confusing as characters are killed off etc., but the challenge of understanding all the interesting concepts and ideas of the show makes it worthwhile. I just hope they can tie everything together by the end of this season, only a couple of episodes left.

There's no such thing as a Lost theory, whenever you come up with a reasonable explanation for something the writers add something to what happened in which you could have never known had happened. They fuck with your mind until all you want to do is see the next episode because you know it will both provide an explanation for the previous episode and confuse the living shit out of you, then the cycle will continue..

THAT IS THE ONLY EXPLANATION!

bump/ i predict that the parallel universe characters will all remember and re-experience the memories that they had on the island in the other universe (charlie was the first one to remember when he saw claire, then desmond in the car crash, then hurley with the phsyco bitch). im guessing they all might try and return BUT the island will be under water.

my theory. in the flash sideways they all meet each other at the concert and there lives just continue from there and its like there was no crash. kind of like the cirque du freak books targeted at 5th graders ended
