I'm going to be making a trip out to tahoe in a few weeks with my family and I haven't yet decided what the best place to go is, so I decided I'd ask NS. I love park and I love pow. I live in MN so I don't get to ride pow, ever so I'm wondering what the best place to just ride is, with still having a decent park with some decent jumps. I know Heavenly is supposed to have some delicious pow and Northstar is good all around but I want to hear what you think is the best place. Thanks

i kinda hate heavenly

alpine meadows is awesome too, right next to squaw with half the people

It would help if you stated what side of the lake you're staying at, and if your family is willing to drive to get to some places.

i was there two weeks ago and squaw and alpine are both sick. home wood is alright too cuz it seems to get even less people than alpine, its terrain is more mellow though.

well we'll avtually be driving from the San Francisco area, so it doesn't really matter where cuz we're going to be driving regardless, but sick, I'll look into Squaw a bit more!

I lived in Tahoe for the past two months. Squaw is AMAZING. The park is prime. Awesome terrain everywhere as well. If you want something cheaper for only park, head to Boreal. The only problem with Squaw is that it's $83 a day for a ticket...

I would probably recommend flying into Reno, Tahoe is a trekkkk from Frisco. But as far as resorts North Shore resorts are my favorite, and anyone of the top 4 (Northstar, Squaw, Alpine, Boreal) are gunna knock your socks off compared to Minesota. But if your parents need ammenities I would stick with Northstar or Squaw.

Squaw:  fucking huge, gnarliest terrain in N. America (along with JH), great parkS, tons of people, kinda shitty vibe, village is upscale

Alpine: pretty damn big, comparable terrain to squaw, great park, best vibe in tahoe, no village, not too crowded, tons of hike to inbounds untouched terrain.

All in bounds at Alpine:



Squaw has just as gnarly of stuff, with easier access.  Both places have parks that blow away anything east of colorado, but if you come out west come to shred the gnar!!!

Go to Squaw. Such a dope place. You'll feel like you're skiing in the tracks of Shane and CR. I've never skied anywhere else where you can look from any chair on the mountain and see some sick terrain. You'll be amazed when you pull into the parking lot and look up at the tram face and the huge amount of terrain just to looker's left, including KT-22. The park is always pretty dope too, but not quite on the level of Northstar's, but then again, Northstar's mountain isn't really on a comparable level to Squaw's.

sierra man, rep south lake!

3 day tickets are like $120, not bad at all. its what i grab when i manage a weekend up there..

but you cant go wrong man, northstar is so sick and boreal is another favorite

i took a trip down to Heavenly early season and the parks there are pretty dope, their mini park is really legit. but i only skid Heavenly in Tahoe this year so thats that

Squaw has the best terrain in N Lake no doubt. Good park too. Alpine is also pretty sick. Homewood is cool too but it doesn't have the terrain like Squaw/Alpine. Awesome tree skiing though, i prefer it to Alpine ect for trees. Kirkwood is also sick, but its in S. Lake.

hell yeah everything sounds super sick! WE're in san Fran cuz that's where my dad's working from, its a complicated story with a lot of commuting haha but yeah from the sound of it Squaw has sick terrain but a janky vibe and crowded, but I can't imagine it being crowded compared to what I deal with in MN. about 200 people lapping a 150 foot vertical drop park is a good day, haha. So yeah I'm def thinking Squaw as my choice for right now, Thanks bros

I went to Tahoe for my first time a few months ago and I went to Squaw. I was totally happy with my decision. Rad resort, conditions were awesome, its huge, 2 gondolas, an ice rink and hot tub and shit on top of the mountain, really dope little village, it was pretty epic. My hotel was fucking cheeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaap as fuck, I paid like almost motel prices, and the back door of it literally lead right out on to the bottom of a run.

Also Alpine Meadows is like a 2 minute drive it is literally right there, so you could ski both resorts if you wanted to.

And for the record I didn't think it had a janky/bad vibe at all. Everyone I met was real nice and real stoked. It also was not very crowded, compared to where I usually ride it was empty. It was early season though, like right after the first big storm. Also there is a little liquor store in the village and they did not ID me lol.

whats the easiest way to get out there/ place to stay from San Francisco? I got to college in downtown SF, and out spring break is week after next. Im trying to shred Alpine or Squaw for a couple days.

^ take the 680 to 80 my man.. at least thats what i do.  it might be a lil different for you but yeah just get on the 80E and itll take you past boreal  to truckee over donner pass.

It depends if your stuck in south lake like myself heavenlys park is pretty good but sierras is better, squaw or northstar if you can go anywhere

Northstar is bomb for park, and I would recommend riding pow their only during a storm. It sits in a very nice place that is sheltered from the wind that makes Squaw and Alpine really difficult to ride on a stormy day.

I would go Squaw, Alpine, or Northstar.

If it's convenient or have the money, Heavenly isn't that bad. It's pretty corporate, plently expensive, but in some ways overlooked I think. Mott and Killebrew (sp?) Canyons have some pretty gnar terrain for when there's fresh. Also, the trees off the Sky Peak (I think?) Chair are always a good time. Park is average-above average for the Tahoe area, also.

Northstar is sweet, its my home mountain, but its got some crowds. If you go, make sure to spend the extra 20 bucks to get a fastpass. Well worth the money. Squaw is super sick too
