People watching you from the lift

You're at the top of the park and you bomb down to your first hit in your favorite rythm section. On the in-run you notice that every1 on the lift has an eye on you. Does this pump you guys up to throw down or the opposite?



For me it boosts my confidence level when i'm huckin off booters, but I think it makes me shy away from trying new rail tricks out in the open cause my rail game is piss-poor.




Guess I'm just curious how people watching you affects your stoke level...

it really doesn't affect my skiing...it just makes me kinda satisfied about being a skier like every other skier.huh

Rippin bumps under the sunshine chair on the way to the park gets me so stoked. People are always yellin off that lift and just makes we wanna bust out some daffys. The kids who straightline for the park don't know what they are missing!

its the exact same for me
it gets me more pumped for jumps, because no matter what the gapers will be like "oook, ahhh!" on jumps

on rails, if they see you fall, no matter what they think "that guys a pussy he fell on the small rails when he coulda done the big jumps"

As much as I 'ski for myself', I want people to think I'm a good skier, so I do something pretty legit, land it all steeze like, and ride away.

But I will usually only try new stuff, for which there is a high probability that the eating of shit will occur, at quieter times.

i love it.  my park is right under the gondola so there are tons of people always watching.  It pumps me up to throw some shit down.  and even if you don't land it people are still impressed.  i had a group of people come up to me when i was in the lodge and they said they saw me from the lift and said what i did "was super sick dude".

it depends on what I'm trying. But earlier this year I was workin on fronts and a bunch of ppl were watchin which kind of got me excited, because anything inverted gets a cheer

Normally I cant do the trick im trying to do when i know everyone is watching me cause it like puts me under pressure but when i dont see them looking at me although they might be i can do the trick just fine i try not to pay attention to them

this. I was throwing backflips on tuesday and I actually heard someone yell from the lift while still upside down. WHOOAAA!! Did he really do a backflip??!! CRAZY!

the  thing with having people watch is that it makes the feeling of stomping a trick 110% better and when you fail it makes it 110% worse

Personally I don't like it. I just started this season so nothing I do looks sick, maybe when I get some more tech tricks down it'll be different.

But I can 1 up you, try skiing with a GoPro, everyone is watching you. It's funny to look at footage later and see mad kids stare.

It used to make me super shitty in the beginning because I thought everyone was going to make fun of me or some stupid shit but after I got used to it it just makes me land stuff way more smoothly and try to be as style as possible.

Agreed. One thing I like about the attention is, sometimes when you wreck on a killer trick, it generates conversation and occasionally you find chill people to shred park with.

(that is, if you can remember the conversation after the concussion)

I try not to pay attention to it for the most part, but sometimes it pumps me up, sometimes it brings me down. Usually it pumps me up when I'm with a group, but when I'm by myself for some reason it brings me down.

I entered the park the other day and it was full of a bunch of gaper snowboarders so i just goofed off so i could get back to the top of the mountain, as i did a hippy killer on the flat box some snowboarder started screaming "THAT WAS SO DAMN CRAZY, SKIERS CANT RIDE PARK AND HE DID ONE FOOTED SHIT..WHAT THE HELL BRO!!" hahaha it felt good showin little wanna be shaun whites what freestyle skiing is

At times like this i always throw the crowd pleasers. Front flips are a favorite. The two parks i rideat have the chairs running right next to the park so everything is being watched on the way up. So sometimes if theres alot of people ill opt out of trying new shit and just smile to myseld and be like "ah what the hell" and throw a super man off a kicker.

Pull a simon dumont and make everyone on th chair think im way sicker than the guy before me who stomped a cork 7 nose,, haha.

But yea its sick when you stomp things because you know people are watching and sometimes get some cheers (frontflips and backflips usually) but when you eat shit its the worst...unless you tried something big.

if the park has  its own lift then i generally dont care what other random park riders think or say about a trick i did, but if its a regular lift than spinning onto rails will usually turn some heads. or just doing a retarted massive hucked spin that isnt grabbed

it doesn't really affect me cause i mostly fall/ fail anyways. you'd be surprised how many ppl will remember you for falling super hard than doing a crazy trick.

I love charging a lift line and sendin cliffs and everyone on the lift is hollerin! Makes me feel like a wild animal. Park it's all whatever cuz most of the kids are assholes and I could care less what their immature minds yell scream or think.

I hate this. When I saw like 7 I decided to cruise around the park by myself. Thought the rail looked pretty cool and wanted to try it. Ended up eating shit and some random kids started laughing at me from the chair. It was a long time ago but I think it really stunted my progression and made me scared to fall, not because it hurt, but because I didnt want to get laughed at. Thank god I overcame that phase.

I love it, it pumps me up on anything.

We have an S rail at the bottom of the hill where you can see it from the lift line and the lift, everyone watches. I love sliding the whole thing to 270 out and strolling into line with my music as loud as possible in the zone, acting like nothing happend when all the gapers are just staring.

im always more stoked to hit stuff, probably not try anything new but hit rails or jumps.  Probably more stoked for rails with people watching, guess my rail game is better than jumping, but both are fun with others watching.  I just hate crashing and losing a ski, then having to hike up and get it while others are waiting for a hit on jumps.

i just hate it when kids yell stupid shit at you.

I popped out of one of my skis when i came off a box last week and when i missed the binding when i stomped my boot in (i was pissed cause i busted my shit hard haha) some 12 year old kid yells "it goes in the slot" i just gave him a thumbs up and said thanks and acted like i didn't know what i was doing.

Fun to shred a crazy pow line under the chair, especially if you danger some faceshots and pass all the gaper boarders sliding down on their heel edge. Then you get woots from the chair and everyone is just super stoked.

I totally agree.

I'm by no means an attention whore or the kind of person that needs other people's approval, but I love showing out under the chairlift.

I think back to being a youngin' and how excited I'd get when I'd see kids spinning off jumps, and grabbing. I'd ooooooh and aaaaaaah all day. I'm just returning the favor and trying to get the next generation of shredders pumped.

Joking aside, spectators in all sports aid progression. People of the right mind set elevate their game in front of an audience and literally accomplish things that they wouldn't have been able to if that audience was absent.
