My brother put a video up on hookit.com and got a sponsorship offer from Steel MX Optics. http://www.steelmx.com/, they are a goggle and apparel company. Have any of you guys heard of them or no whats up there shit doesn't look terrible and he is young and would love to accept but the offer is kind of brutal and i think it might just be like a stock offer to try and get brand recognition and people to wear their stuff. Any thoughts

yah pretty much what it said was it was a 50% discount which is pretty shitty
but its only until December 31st of next year so i think he might take it cause he is so stoked he got an offer haha

That's sick for your brother.  Make sure you look over the contracts if he has to sign them though and see that there is no legal obligations and stuff you don't want there.

i know a guy who was sponsored by them, he didnt really do anything with it and i believe he was only given 15% off their product

These sponsorship site things are a joke. They give you a discount on shitty gear that you pretty much pay to wear but they make it think like your sponsored and really good. So you are pretty much paying to advertise for them while you get to wear lame shit. I mean would you really buy those goggles if you weren't "sponsored"?

dude dont take too much out of it (no offence) but it's more of a way for brands to make money because none actually give out "full sponsorships" to people it's more just selling stuff at a bit of a discount. My friend did it on sponsorhouse (old name) and hadn't posted anything and got sponsored by osiris. So don't take it personally I'm not saying your brothers bad or anything and that he should give up but just letting you know that those sites are tricky.

This thread is dumb.  Im pretty sure "hookit.com"  or whatever is the new name for the Loop'd network because they got sued. 

Your brother and pretty much anyone else on this site could probably get discounts from all of the other companies on the website.  It is a way for companys to generate sales....thats it.  You mentioned something about a contract????  There is no need for a contract, its a "pro-form" hook up. 

Wholesale prices are usually 50% off, so it really makes no difference to companies if they sell their stuff at wholesale to a shop or to a kid on "hookit.com".   Either way they are making their margins.  Making that CASH MONEY $$$

But congrats to your brother and if he likes the products then he should use his discount and order some shit!

yo that shit is whack, i remember a few years ago i spotted their website, and under the team section, they said they were looking for riders, so to just send an email and if ur legit they would hook you up. i sent an email loaded with complete garbage and they sent one back saying ok, you're in, heres a code to get a discount when you buy our shit online. so ya its incredibly sketch

It's not real oh my...real sponsors would be if they approached you at a comp or found out about you from an edit or such and they would contact you. Those sites are so bad you can send in a "resume" with no vids or pics and they will "sponsor" you. rant over

yea im pretty sure its called like a flow sponsor.  its not that hard to get and they only give you discounts.  i had one from steel mx from sponsorhouse.com,  and yea they are pretty legit, my friend actually got some gogs from them and they were legit.

I joined hookit.com like 3 weeks ago. I had 2 photos up (one i'm on a chair lift the other clearly smashed) and they sent me that sponsorship thing 60% off i believe? and some free stickers when you buy shit. Its just a marketing ploy.

60% off is around wholesale which they make money off anyway. So really they are making more off their "sponsored" rider than they do selling their products to a store.
