Have your parents ever done this to you?

ok, so i went skiing yesterday, and i was hitting the first Xl jump which was 45 feet. the first time i hit i cased a bit but it didnt hurt. then i go to hit it again and i ditched too much speed and i landed 5 feet from the landing. and i bruised my heel pretty bad (pretty bad as in i have to hop every where on one foot) when i got home my parents were watching tv  and they asked what happend so i told them. and they banned me from skiing in the park. and they said since we had a 1 hour talk about how the park isnt safe and how u can get hurt easily. now i have to ski with them from now on or not ski at all. have your parents ever done this to you? and which one would you chose? not skiing or ski with ur parents

Have you ever taken a park lesson? i'm self taught in the park, and when i injured myself by overshooting a jump my parents banned me even though i had skied park for 2 years prior without injury. i managed to get back into the park by promising to take a park lesson so id know "proper technique", it satisfied my parents and wasn't too bad because i was already somewhat proficient in the park

jesus, your perents are fucking nuts. I dont know a soul who has been restricted from going into the park, let alone because their parents have incredibly irrational fears... I mean, it sounds like you didnt even try and argue with them about it. Just take it easy and explain to them that "extreme" sports will always carry an element of risk to them and the only way to progress is to fail and learn from your mistakes. Like seriously, who doesn't fall a few times when they try something new??

says the guy who isn't responsible for anyone...   I bet most parents would be a bit alarmed whent heir child couldn't put weight on his or her foot.  Are his a bit more cautious and perhaps afraid than others?  Sure.  It doesn't make them nuts, though.

And to those who say listening to your parents is a bad idea - bleh.  Most parents have your best in mind.  It is sad how arrogant our generation has become.  I am not pointing the finger since I used to get hurt all the time against my mom's advice.  But, we need to honor our parents.  Hindsight is 20/20.  Here is a great quote that is so true from Mark Twain

word, on anything over 50 feet the knuckle is worse than overshooting, plus to take the biggest jumps in our line to flat is nearly impossible, the landings are so deep, you have to be going stupid fast to go to flat

i've been pretty close, my parents would not let me go skiing unless it was with them but me and my brother always went off into the park anyways. shits sooooooo gay i feel your pain or at least i did when i was in high school...now im in college and i ski every other day :D

My parents once asked me why I was in the park, I explained because it was fun. Then I thought about it, I have much more fun out of the park then in the park. I hardly ever ride park anymore just cuz it's not as fun as ripping around and playing on natural features with some friends, and no where near as fun as pow. Fuck park.

man my friend has overprotective parents too, just knowing what he has to go through sucks from what he has told me. it seems that there is no possible way to convince them, i guess just try and let it pass and maybe they will forge about it or change their mind

man that just sucks. tell your parents to stop being so overprotective and fuck off. my dads a doctor and he obviously thinks freestyle skiing is dangerous but skiing is dangerous in general. you can get seriously injured doing anything, are they not going to let you drive because it's dangerous? because driving a car 100kmph down the highway is definately more life threatening than hitting a 45 foot jump. I think you need to argue with them and make them see your side of things.

yes i do live in bc but where my mountian is located we barely ever get nice pow. we only had 1 35 cm day this year. and it was during the week. for all of the qeustions and comments out here. yes i aruged with my rents for almost 2 days now. yes i AM 14. and i see someone going to the hospital ever time im up thier. yesterday a guy broke his neck! (it was a snowboarder) i can finally walk now, and my dad said if ur mom says yes than you can.

but seriously i don't understand how you could bruise your heel bad enough that you couldn't walk on it by knuckling a 45fter, thats not really that big. And it seems like you were just asking for it by limping in front of your parents, but thats just my 2 cents i want there so i don't know.

but for sure ski with your parents cus a bad day of skiing is better than a good day doing anything else.

so a update. i tried making a deal with my rents by saying: i ski with you half the day and then i ski the park the other half. didnt work. now my dad BANNED the WORD "PARK" for our house. i know its stupid. and my dad said that when i leave the house in 4 years i can start skiing in the park again. i know not fair. hopfully they will see in a few weeks that i really really want to ski the park and let me back in.

are you banned from the park forever or just until you get better. if its the later its probably a good idea.  skiing is inheritly dangerous, cutting out park doesnt garentee you will be injury free.

That sucks a lot, but I'll be honest..

If you really did speed check, you should have known that you didn't have enough speed to the jump.

Also, it's best to watch other skiers/boarders hit the XL's and see how much they turn/slow down before each jump.

That's just my opinion, nonetheless, your parents are overreacting.

I never tell my parents about anything cus they will flip a bitch on me. Sounds like you need to get some friends to start giving you rides up and just lie to your parents ... if i told my parents what i do or did skiiing they would probably flip a bitch on me. But really if your parents r going to hold tight to this shit then wait untill you get your license and then just drive up yourself, theres no need to tell them weir your going just leave in the morning and then come back in the afternoon

You should post your parent's contact info. I think a lot of us getting ahold of them and explaining the importance of terrain parks, would convince them to have a change of heart.

no. overshooting is worse than casing by a long shot. unless it is a gap and you come up short to a wall of snow that causes you to stop immediately

Huck some fat cliffs. My parents would probably rather watch me slide rails and hit jumps than huck the bigger cliffs at my mountain. 20 feet to most parents is fucking massive, so just start sending cliffs and they'll let you go back to park.
