Volkl Ledge edge issues.

I bought a pair of Ledges brand new in 2008, they were brand new when I got them. I got a solid season out of them last year, and have been killin' it on them this season, but today i looked down and the edge had ripped through the base on one of the front tips. I know everyone is going to say "what did you run into"? but the truth is, I have taken very good care of these skis... And to prove that I haven't hit anything i looked at the other tips, and the same thing is going to happen soon to them as well, as I can see them cracking under the base. I am writing this post to see if anyone has had any issues similar to this, and what they did to fix it, I am currently working with my local ski shop to get them warranted, but I'm not sure how well thats going to go. So let me know if you have any ideas on what I can do.

Again: the whole edge is intact, it just ripped through the base, and is now sticking straight out, rather than following the curvature of the tip. I'd throw up some pics, but the shop has my skis right now.

Yes, in the midwest. Probably the worst condish for skis...

I think you answered your own question by saying you have skied them 5 days a week for over a year.

But the best thing to do assuming they don't get warrantied because they are over a year old would be to just get a grinder and cut the edge of.  Then you could throw some epoxy on it to keep water away from the core.

That's a warrenty issue. Volkl should cover that, no matter what the edges look like from rails. That's not something that should happen to skis no matter how much park you ride.

Word, thats what I'm hoping for. And I kind of sick of these replies about how they broke, I know that they go through quite a lot of abuse, you guys don't need to tell me that.

your out of your one year warrenty, i recomend a staple gun, some masking tape and wax paper and a bunch of 24 hr epoxy. stable gun the edge back in bend the protruding staples in the top sheet over to anchor them. tape off the side wall and exposed base with masking tape and wax paper. fill over the edge and any holes to the core with epoxy so iits flush with the rest of the base. let dry. take off masking tape and wax paper, clean up with a sander or file. good luck.

if you skied on them hard for 1 year you shouldnt be too surprised. volkl ski edges getting messed up after a short while isnt that hard to hear about. If you want a ski that is durable and will hold up for a while, you should not pick volkl.
