GoPro Uploading to Final Cut?

I just got the gopro hd hero, and im wondering if i can load it directly to final cut express? (its the bottom shelf version of fcp) when i plug it in, it loads opens iphoto, loads as a mp4 file and then i just import it to final cut from there, but can i skip this middle step some how? any help is much appreciated

Ive just clicked and dragged onto my computer then opened in FCP, not express tho.

for my camera i go to file > log and transfer

my cam records in avchd format though i dont know if that will work for yours

thread jacking my own thread, it take a very long time to render the footage, like it seems far too long, like takes 10 minutes to render a 20-30 sec clip. maybe its just cause its the first time i've used hd footage, but is this normal?
