How to ski with race boots?

I have some Lange race boots and i think i need more flex. Every day after skiing my shins are all bruised and hurt. Thanks guys

They could be too big, that is normally the cause of shin bang but I'm not quite sure... Not too much information was given

i am about 5'6 and 130. its a junior boot, my shoe size is 9.5. The people who fitted me were really good and pro, but its not a freestyle boot. i race and am not serious.

truth

you dont need a freestyle boot to do freestyle. you need a boot that fits

shins hurting isnt necessarily from a stiff boot, but from landing back seat and having room between your shin and the toung.

i ski some beaten up technica diablos, and they have a screw on the back that keeps the shaft connected to the footbed; once i removed that screw i got a flex like full tilts; it almost feels like im teleskiing if i press my knee down hard :D

look if you have such a screw as well; it might be a long shot but it's worth it !

you should just stop being a pussy, i used race boots my whole life, and not just race boots but plug boots, the worst of the worst.  they are THE best boot out there performance wise, nothing can beat them, they are just uncomfortable.  and if you race but arent that serious about it, tell your fitter adn he will fit you in a stiffer freeride boot, which will be more comfortable, and possibly a little softer.

also dude, you said youre in junior boots? def gotta stop being a vag.

landing backseat in a boot thats too big isnt going to cause shinbang...your going to have contact with the back of your leg (calf) with the back of your foot.

i have some technica diablo race boots with full race fit and im fine when it comes to doing freestyle. do you have a custom fit heat molded boot? or is it just stock?

also since your saying you need "more flex" i can imagine your loosening your buckles and strap when you go do freestyle which you shouldnt do. loosening your buckles is just gonna make your feet knock around in your boot more. tighten your buckles and strap so your shins are glued to the tongue and you have control over the boot

The smaller the boots, means the harder plastic and the less movement in the boots. Think about it just like smaller skis have less flex just because they are shorter. I started out in Rossi Plug race boots that are stiffer than almost any other boot out there. But I was racing at that time, not doing freestyle

thats what i had man, those/langes were sooo cold and uncomfortable even after getting tons of work done, but were def the best bots ive ever used.

Get GOOD footbeds(I use SOLE, but it's personal fitting) and get Intuitions.  Langes performance goes way up with both of those.  I use Solly Falcon CS Pros(stiffer than a Lange "135 flex Banshee Pro") and the stiffer the boot the better you have to have your footbeds/liners, or your shins hurt!

Oh and guys mentioning the Jr. boots, he's a 9.5 shoe, you normally drop two sizes for ski boots(so, 7.5, which is about a size 25) so of course he's in jr. boots, being in adult boots would mean they wouldn't fit right.

lol, i was joking; i know they're great; i also love how you can set stiff race flex when you insert the bolt and super soft boots for jibbing without the bolt!

Did you have a bootfitter take a look at your shaft angulation (or whatever its called; the L-R angle your leg makes with your foot) ?
After a whole day of skiing i used to have some pain in my shins and my foot arch..
but since i get mad comments about how deep i flex my boots, i tought it must've been me; i have a tendency to really press forward in my boots; so i ignored it
on some occasion i mentioned this to my shoptech and he immediately claimed he could solve it: he adjusted the angle in a matter of minutes and i haven't had pain any time since !!

thats basically what happened to me, it took me about a season to get them perfectly tuned right, and now they are absolutely amazing except a i lost a blue bolt flex thing and had to buy 2 new ones for $12

Keep forward pressure. Flex those boots. Lean forward. Have good form.

I used to race in Nordica Dobermans that were insane, I switched to Nordicas freeride boot last year when I stopped racing and that's been nice. It's also been nice that my foot's not really growing anymore so these boots should last me a good amount of time.

when you land backseat, your shins actually bend over the spine of the boot, which is part of what causes shin bang

I used to ski park with atomic race plug boots with a flex of 150, and once i switched to salomon spk pros it was day and night in terms of comfort on my shins and calfs, it definitely worthwhile to get a park boot with good shin and calf padding as race boots and not designed to be comfy and padded

i cringe when people say lean forward. never lean while skiing!!!!! push forward, stay ahead of your skis all the time and your shins wont kill you. this also means stop afterbanging haha

its not a big deal, only if they are uncomfortable. ive used lange racing boots but i couldnt stand how stiff they were. i guess its just personal preference

I use the nordica blower as my all mountain boot.

then I have the Nordica ignition as my park boot.

I have huge calf muscles, like, really overworked. They are so much bigger than than my ankles that I can only tighten my boots to the fit of my calves, and hence my ankles move around loads inside.

Ugh, it's the wording. I didn't mean to bend at the hips to lean forward. I meant forward pressure on your boots keep your hips forward and your hands up and driving down the hill. Better?

Nordica Supercharger Blowers. They've worked fine for me so far. They're a little too flexy for my liking, but it hasn't really been that bad.
