The knockout stages will be over by tomorrow. Who do you guys have winning the whole thing?

I'm really pissed that Marseilles just missed a penalty, but at least Chelsea are still in it.

In 2005 they won the FA Cup on penalties. They also won the league the year before with their famous "Invicibles" team. They haven't won fuck all since Viera left basically.

i think i love every post you make in this thread. like minded people, we seem to be!

hopefully fabregas will be back, but in any case, i also have high hopes that van persie will be back fairly soon. I read he's already back in training, so give him 1 or 2 reserve games and he'll be ready to go. Shame we wont get to see the fabregas-rvp duo from the fall, they were unstoppable. But for now, throw in nasri. He's a damn good player, and can fill in for fabregas.

And arshavin....he should be back quickly. But who knows. If not....well....i don't know. Just keep in walcott i guess.

Arsenal is the best along with barcelona. And keep in mind that arsenal has been without their lead striker all season. Let's see chelsea win so often without drogba, or man utd without rooney...or even barcelona without messi.

so, i was banned sometime, so i go through all the games i care about now:



bayern/manu

great game, tough, disciplined. manu not nearly as good as everyone thought. they got a jumpstart and couldnt finish it off. very poor performance imo. bayern surprising, without two important players (schweinsteiger/robben), and they still owned manu. i am biased, but i think they go through. if they can limit manu again like this, they have a good chance to come out of old trafford with a win or tie.



arsenal/barca

barca played good, but i have two big problems with this team: 1. they couldnt get the ball in the nets, they had like 4-5 pretty good chances in the first 20 minutes but couldnt get it in. that was kinda poor.
2. they couldnt play defense after they went ahead 2:0. they still pushed like mofos and gave arsenal all the room for counter-attacks. very undisciplined and unstructured defensively. not a big fan of that...
arsenal in the meantime had ISSUES with their D too. it looked like they had no clue what was coming. that was also not CL-level. but they have a lot of heart and their offensive players are great. btw, there are some people here that question the penalty. i dont get it, clear foul and red card. i just cant see why anyone thinks this shouldnt be a penalty. in the end, everything can happen. barca made enough mistakes and could end up on the wrong side of the scoreboard if they commit these mistakes again.



inter/ZSKA

i couldnt care less. inter, blame yourself for not scoring more. now one dumb mistake can kill them.



lyon/bordeaux

same here, not more interest in one team than the other. the better one should win, and it seems like lyon deserved it from what i saw.

messi was just on a different level today. No one in the world was gonna stop him today.

Well fair play to barcelona, they are a damn good team.

I'm now pulling for bordeaux, but since the odds are stacked against them, i think i'll end up going with lyon. I would love for a french team to win it. Doubtful, but it could happen.

ok, messi was on fire, yes i saw it. but if you look at 3 of his goals, they werent like structured offensive actions. the first one was a blocked pass right back to his feet, the second one resulted from a blocked cross and the last one was a blocked shot that couldnt end up any better.

it was a great game, very rare, but he sure had the luck on his side. its just the time in his career that everything he tries works perfectly. maybe you have to earn that luck, idk...

i was rooting for arsenal (although i dont care for either team) and i would like to know how everything wouldve turned out if bendtner hadnt been called back (very good position to make it 2:0)?

i dont blame the refs, but when talking about "another level" (whether its barca or messi) people have to remember that not everything resulted from their "superior", "extraterrestric" play-style... AND 4:1 was a little too much anyway.




inter - cska wasnt that great of a game from what i heard. inter-barca will be great i guess.

if only bayern makes it into the semi-finals...

exactly. he got the ball off odd events, but he acted so cool and calm to simply chip the keeper. give another striker that opportunity and see how many finish them like messi

that ref today was extraordinarily frustrating. It seemed as if arsenal couldn't tackle without it being a foul. I believe it was....denilson(?) who got the yellow on some lovely acting by messi, despite all the replays showing that it was actually a beautifully executed tackle.

glad to see robben will be playing tomorrow, i feel that he will be a huge help.  not that we could not do it int he first place without, and now with the news of that wanker rooney not playing, this should hopefully seal the deal for Bayern.  It will not be a blowout but I feel that we can pull through and beat Man U.

I like the representation of european nations in the semis though. 4 teams from 4 countries. Not like last year, 3 english, 1 spanish.

manu was just not clever enough. of course i am a bayernfan, but you lead after 64 seconds in the first leg and stop playing football after 10-15 minutes. you go up 2:0 after 7 minutes in the second leg and you stop playing after halftime.

bayern stayed calm and didnt run into their counters. played it clever. of course it was lucky to get the goals, but you cant defend on this level for 45 minutes.

of course the red card was part of the game, but raffael shouldve been ejected for the first foul anyways. and the second one is a tactical foul, its just yellow, whether this guy has one or not.

i forgot robbens strike. wtf?? one of the best goals i have seen in such a pressure situation. unbelievable. gibson tried to push it in in another direct shot seconds earlier. but robben totally went for it (although he said in german tv a few seconds ago that he tried to hit it not with full risk, but with technique)...

unfortunately playing rooney paid off and cost dearly equally
and Bayern were just too damn good

Really can't see them winning the EPL unless Chelsea somehow screw it up in the last five games

Personally, i'm just fucking Stoked that Newcastle got their shit back in gear and are headed back to the top flight with a solid group of players...

That said... as far as champions league is concerned... if the Messiah keeps pumping 4 goals out? ha.. I dont even freaking know what to think of how deadly he will be in the world cup... much less against inter... Either way. I see Barca moving on with how well they handled Arsenal in that 2nd leg... they were pretty good in the first leg as it was..

As for the other side? Lyon - Bayern?

No clue really... but if Ribery does what he did back in 09 (2 assists + 1 goal in a 3-2 bayern victory dance) we might just have a bayern - barca matchup...





I'm still hoping for a Lyon-Barca Matchup... If anything to see a french team in there.

yes, messi is great, but your arguments with the argentina team is weak. even given the danger of having this thread pulled out of nowhere when argentina wins it all on messis 20 goals:

messi in barca is so much better as messi in argentina. in barca, he is allowed to be where he wants to be. he goes from left to right wing, plays mid striker or behind other forwards. idk if thats the issue or if its just the inferior quality of argentinas team (which is actually a pretty good one, so idk), but he plays like i would with the national team.

Messi is completely different for barcelona than he is for argentina, he just fits in much better there. He's already shown that he is more loyal to barcelona.

And argentina is like france, great team hampered by incompetent coaching.

^word, arsenal played very risky against him. the stuttgart game (first leg), this is how you play him. pressure, pressure, pressure. prevent him from getting the ball and make a first step without a defenders body on him. like ribery was defended in the first half two days ago (although they are different types of players). but the best thing (and the easiest one) is to just not let him the ball deep in your territory. make him go back to the midline to get the ball.

interesting situation for sure.

to me, this trade was absolut bullshit for barca. they had one of the best strikers who fitted in their system perfectly over years, gave him away (for a unproven player at least in their system) and paid 40 mio € on top???


if i was eto'o, i would be laughing or crying, more likely crying. very underrated and undervalued player if you look at that.

anyone see the performance of lloris vs bordeaux? He's without a doubt one of the best keepers in the world right now. And unlike the other top keepers, he is extremely young.

So glad that he's french too. We've been needing a replacement for Barthez. And Lloris is probably even better than barthez was.
