Hellbent + Duke

I know there was one thread on this awhile back, but wondering if anyone has hellbent's with a duke.  Getting this setup and wondering how others like it.  I'm a very strong kid and don't care if it is a heavy setup. Basically will be using only on powder days, and the locations i will be going is usually within 2hrs away.  Mostly using to hike long pillow lines, not long distances.  Input would be much appreciated.

if you're skinning, dukes are pretty damn good with any ski...

Yes I know the duke is an amazing AT binding. Just wondering how if it do everything I want with a ski with this much rocker.

the duke is a great, burly ass binding. i dont think the rocker will really make a difference?

Ive never heard any problems. But that will be a heavy ass setup. Like 16+lbs

dukes are not amazing AT bindings, they are amazing alpine bindings and mediocre at best touring bindings because they're heavy and inconvenient. hellbents will be great in bottomless pow and suck in everything else, so if you're skinning purely for tons of deep pow, go for bents, but if you're looking to ski other stuff too then look for something more versatile that doesn't ski like a wet piece of cardboard

heavy + with rocker there will be less contact with the snow.

Why tour on a ski with that much rocker? Sounds like a bad/heavy set up to me. Make sure your skins go from tip to tail. Plus, all rocker aside, stiffer skis are better for touring because they hold an edge better while traversing. I like my Dukes, and I had Helbents 2 years ago and liked them as well. But I wouldn't use them together. Just my thoughts.

i've toured on fat skis for the last 2 seasonsskis ep's and moships(heavy as shit) mo-ships with dukes ep's with naxo, you have very little contact length for your skin underfoot, if you are the type of person to get frustrated with slipping then don't get this set up or you'll have a fit in the back country. upon my expierience on touring rigs this year i'm going back to a skinnier skis, used  to tour on a seth, 98mm underfoot. when you are earning your turns you want to get some face shots, and unless its waist deep blower its not happening on super fat rockers. i'm thinking a 186 s3 this year, lightweight and sick profile. heelbents and dukes would be dope, when the conditions exist.

its def not going to be the best but for some slackcountry you should be fine just going to take a little more work

With the rocker you won't have much contact area and you will be sliding a lot more than normal. Check out the TGR threads, there is a lot of talk about touring with rockered skis.

i have that setup and love it. they are fine in the backcountry, skinning up is no problem.

He's touring for powder smart guys, he will be fine.  Although that is a 17lb set up, and I bet that you're in heavy alpine boots too(I am to, but my 202 138s weight 9.3lbs, not 11.3).  The rocker keeps you plaining over the powder when cutting trail easier.  I don't like bents though, too heavy, too soft, too little thought.
