Full tilts: really that good?

All summer long I looked and overlooked what boot i was going to buy.  I looked e-v-e-r-y siingle model on the market.  Finally, the full tilt caught me up, they were looking ''the perfect boot'' as everybody says. When I was trying them on in the store, everything was perfect. I fitted them by a pro boot fitter, every thing seemed alright. This weekend, i tried them on the slopes, and didnt liked it. First my tonge was way too flex, I'm not even able to imagine someone ski with a boot flex like this. i did not find those so comfortable too. I hate to buy boots: You can never know if they really fits you
i think that everybody are on full tilts just because they got a good pro team.

i personally love mine. I havent hit any jumps yet but the flex is perfect for rails in my opinion. Cant you by stiffer tongues or whatever too?

I hate full tilts too. As soon as I tried a pair I wanted to take off those pos and put on a real boot.

there's a reason why a 30 year old, unchanged, design that has barely been updated is considered the best boot out there. They got it right the first time. The only bitch I have about the FT, are those cables, but they are easy to replace. Also don't ski w/ the bottom ratchet buckle undone. When that thing drags in the snow it's real easy to strip that thing out and it won't set properly.

you gotta find a company that fits your foot. At the beginning of this season i wanted fulltilts but they just didn't fit me. For my feet only lange actually fits but once you have a fitting boot you wont need to make a thread asking you will know

Honestly, I'll probably never wear a different boot, they are SO comfortable and they are super light.

BUT, they aren't for everyone, it's all about personal preference, and mine is Full Tilt for sure.

Dude there are a full tilt for every flex. You should have checked the flex before buying them. Good news is you can change the tongue to get the flex you want which you can't with any other boots. Just pay the extra 40 bucks it's no one else's fault than yours.

granted i have only used my friends hot doggers. they were extremely light and too flimsy, almost as comfortable as my shoes, and their buckle system is wack and would not stay tight enough (interestingly enough the boots buckle broke later that season). honestly i felt like i was wearing 5 year old rental boots. just not for me, but if you like them and they fit, then go for it.

they are pretty much a hit on all levels of suck. Pretty much a rear entry boot you can't enter from the rear.
I really love how easy it is to engage the tips of the skis with these boots.... oh wait you can't.

when i ask boot-fitters about fulltilts, they say there a good boot but they haven't really changed them from back when the were made like in the 80's, they needa just update em a little.

this, although boots are often uncomfortable for the first few days till you break them in... also, what model did you get? you can buy stiffer tongues, and I agree, some of the tongues are absurdly soft...

Full tilts are fucking life changing.  I bought mine off line and at first i was really skeptical because i had the same problem with the flexy toungue, and plus boots shouldn't feel perfect the first day cause you need to break them in.  You should try buying a stiffer toungue, the higher the number the stiffer it will be.  I have mine with custom foot beds and heat molded intuitions with a big mountain tounge and i swear by them.  Good luck with the choice

you can get a stiffer tongue, thats one of the great things about full tilts, theyre so interchangeable, and yes break the in a while, no boots are that comfortable at first. also you might want to get them heat molded if you havent already

i love mine to death. at first they were shady but then i got em heat molded, and stiffer tongues and theyre the best boot everrrr!. my recommendation to you would be to purchase stiffer tongues.

i had the same problem. I bought booter last season, pretty stoked, and then I get to the slope.. no way i could be riding those, waay to soft for me.. so i decided to buy a new tounge, so I bought the orange one, flex 8 i think.. Now I LOVE them! best shoe Ive ever had hands down

Want to know why they're so popular? It's called marketing. Very good marketing. Sure, they're good boots, but not leaps and bounds ahead of other manufacturers like some people suggest.

It's not some new revolutionary design.The boot it unchanged since it was first released 30 years ago, yet kids on here only started getting off over them since they started targeting the NS crowd in their marketing plan by doing things like signing Wallisch...

Wow you are so ignorant. First of all the full tilt just started being popular lately because it was off the market for a while. The reason why is because the liners in the raichles were so uncomfortable that people didn't want to ski in them. Full tilt kept the same boot and puted the best liner there is on the market inside them. The way the boot is made IS much ahead from other boots. First of all they are customizable as much as you want. The liner inside them is moldable and if you fit in them there are very little chance that you will have any pressure point. The way the tounge is on the boot makes it is easyer on the knees because it doesn't stop flexing at one point.

There are many many more reasons why full tilts are much better than any other manufacturers, next time you try to be a smart ass know your shit.

you came up with some very weak arguments there. moldable liners, not special, customizable as much as you want, massive claim and lack of pressure points, welcome to the world of properly fitted boots. many more reasons? why didn't you say them? i thought you knew your shit?

Ha. puted isn't a word doggo. I ride spk pro's cause i have a wide foot and like the flex... if the kids got the boots,and doesn't like them he should try the stiffer flex. 40 beaners is nothing compared to the hundos he dropped in the first place. and if he doesn'tlike them so much and can't return them it'd be worth it. bottom line: no boot is perfect for everyone... so letsnot cry about it

Sure the FT mold is a design from the 80's...... but the overlap boot is from 1969.  If anything, the FT is still one of the newest designs on the market. 

And with any boot, make sure you get the correct flex and LINER choice.  As you go up the line with any boot, you get stiffer boots and more customizable liners.  At least with the FT you can change the flex without changing your boot or permanently altering your boot.

And and and, always buy what fits and get a footbed.  You could buy the best boot in the world for your foot, but if you don't support your foot, it will twist and move inside your boot etc. etc.

for the record I make a good chunk of my income fitting ski boots, I get to examine pretty much every boot out there.
Full tilts suck. stright up they suck. The plastic they use is cheaper then that of other boots. You know why they are so light? Because they use a shitty weak plastic. Its really not that hard to see, just pick up a full shit and another non-junior boot and you will be able to tell the difference.
The boot is just as customizable as any other boot. Yes it does come with a B grade intuition liner, but many dalbello's come with A grad intuition liners, and you can put an A grade (or a B grade) intuition into any boot on the market. Woopdefuckindoo. Not the end all solve all of boot fitting either.
The full tilt last is narrow, about the same for foot width as non wc race boots. As someone who fits a lot of people it is very rare to find a foot that fits the shell well. It is often necessary to do more punches (not that the shell can take a lot) or grinds to it then most other boots.
The way the tung/3piece shell is designed on the full tilts make it so that you can never really power the tips of your ski. This causes people to keep flexing the boot more and more each time they try and do something, the result is bad on your knees.
There are many more reasons why full tilts are below the standard of other boot manufactures, next time you try to be a smart ass know your shit.

I totally get that FT might not be your favorite go-to boot in the shop, no company's 98mm boot is.  But, not to start a fight, your design comments aren't totally correct.  The shell doesn't need to be thick BECAUSE of they way the boot is designed - it's a 3-piece and doesn't need to have a 10mm thick lower shell to be stiff.  But it is thick enough to stretch and punch to high hell, and it comes out really good too.  I've had a lot of success working on FTs.  As far as your comment about not being able to power the tips of your ski, I don't believe that either.  Coming out of Salomon Course plug, Lange 130, to Dobermann 130, to Falcon, I have no problem powering the tip on my 186cm Prophets with my FT.  In fact, I think it skis the best out of any boot I've previously owned.  Do I have a narrowish foot? Yes.  Do all feet fit into a FT, absolutely not.  Is it the perfect boot in the world?  Absolutely not.  Is it a great boot that skis well, I really think so.

Intuition Liners stock
Interchangeable flex tongues
Smooth flex.
Apparent super powers according to ns.
Cons:
Really thin shell/ no room to punch/grind
plastic buckles suck.

OK I never sayd the FT were a perfect boot. Obviously they have cons, but I dont know any boot that doesnt have any. Let me know if you know any boot that is better for the park than the full tilt, and that you can bring out of the park any time you want and just change the tounge and go rip some pow. I didnt mean to make you guys pissy I was just saying theres no way you can say the ft is a cheap boot.

meh, I skied in it and it felt like I had no control over my skis. Now I ski Banshee pros (135flex) and love the way they ski.


also try giving someone some instep room in any 3 piece design. You basically have to grind out the bottom from the inside. Or cook the whole boot.

I agree that making instep room isn't easy on a FT, but making room for insteps in overlap boots is usually messy anyways. Cutting liners, grinding out awkward places on the boot = not the ideal boot to start with.  But you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes.
