fuck this shit. this guy may be charged with manslaughter but he better be getting the full 20 on both counts. fucking idiot. imagine if that were you and your buddy and you were t-boned BY A COP BREAKING THE LAW and he kills both of you. anyway, read on.

Technically the straight travel has the right of way, kids were probably too high to see that a car was barreling down at them at super speeds. WIthout video evidence, they most likely would have been at fault.

Look at the street he's on. There is no way he should be going 94 miles an hour. Its not an open highway. He killed two people. The fact that you're justifying his actions is ridiculous.

paid leave is just a simple way to get the cop out of the way while they look into this.

though it looks like the cop had a flashing yellow light, whereas the car turning would probably have had flashing red. (thats just probable, i have no idea if they did or not, and whether they stopped etc etc etc)

before this gets too far, i'll just say it...this video doesn't show or tell us all the details that we need.

The cop should probably be charged with this, but it's also proof to all of you-pay attention when you drive! Don't take the risks. Unless this cop was driving a silent car with no headlights in pitch black night, they would have been able to see him. And as a general rule, i don't pull out to make a turn when i see some headlights approaching the intersection going the other way very fast.

agreed, but it's pretty hard to tell how fast a car is coming at you like that. in fact i'd bet you wouldn't even be able to tell the car was speeding. the kid did make a dumb decision to pull out, but the cop needs to face some serious consequences on this one.

it is difficult to tell, but you also have to remember...there were 2 police cars coming towards him. So 2 sets of lights, even though 1 was going slower than the other.

but yea, i agree, the cop needs to face up to this.

yes, brainiac, that goes for every accident like this, if only the car traveling straight through was driving slower, no one would ever get t-boned turning in front of another car. Everyone speeds everyday, 95 is fast but who am I to draw the line. I hate cops as much as the next criminal, but they are both at fault for violating traffic laws. Failure to yield is a much more serious infraction than simple speeding. In this case they will probably find 95 to be dangerously excessive, but as I stated earlier, without video evidence of the officers street racing shenanigans it would be hard to blame the car with the right of way (even with an accident investigation looking at the damage).

It isn't simple speeding, the speed limit on that road is 40-45 mph (saw on another site).  If you are traveling in excess of 30mph over the speed limit then you are no longer speeding and you are reckless driving.  Reckless driving >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Failure to yield.  You are looking at felony vs. misdemeanor.

Plus, you don't even really know that the kid failed to yield.  From the slow cops point of view, the car turning would have made it no problem.  Accurately judging the speed of an incoming car at NIGHT is nearly impossible.  You can tell they are traveling, that is about it.  Now take 2 teenagers who have little driving experience (I know everyone on NS says they are great drivers, but you aren't, you have been driving for hardly any time at all) and it seems very unlikely that they could accurately judge the speed of a care coming at them at TWICE the speed limit.

This cop deserves to get max penalty on both manslaughter convictions.  He is a cop, there is ABSOLUTELY no reason why he should be speeding like that without being on a call.

Agreed. It's difficult to judge speed, but I would likely think okay, I can make it because this road is a 40mph road. I would expect someone to be going 50, and maybe even 55, but in the 90s? Hell no. This cop is fucked.

I am a firm believer in having yo feets whipped and your cars taken away if you can't fucking handle NOT being a fuckup for 5 seconds. Cop = failed at life, and I hope he doesn't have a family, cuz that fucker needs to go to jail STAT.

If you pause the video at :13 that is when the kids start to make the left.  The cop is about 20 yards from the intersection and doesnt even hit the brakes for another second and a half. Fuck that pig.

Kind of shotty vid evidence though, I'd like to see it from the other cops cam. For instance can you tell if the kids had a turn signal from that video???? Not trying to be a dick but you can't tell everything from that vid.

he's on paid leave because it was not a cut and clear accident. kids could have waited, the cop could not have been speeding yadda... he will most likely be in deep shit when all is said and done.

luckily my friend wasn't injured that bad, sadly unlike this story where they were killed, but a similar thing happened to him. He was driving through an intersection at 10:30 at night, a couple months after he got his license. Had a green light so he didnt need to slow down to stop at the light. He was going 25 through the intersection when out of no where a cop car hit the back end of his car. The cop had no lights/sirens/ etc and was going 75 when he hit him. Then the cop got pissed at my friend and wrote him up for the incident, even though it was all the cops fault. And my friend had to pay the reckless driving fine, points added to his license, and insurance rates spiked for him cuz the car was pretty much totaled.

holy shit never saw that. And from the video it does look like the teens are trying to beat the cop to make the turn into that road. HOWEVER they would have been fine if he was not traveling 94 mph and instead at the speed limit.

no lights or sirens, what a fucking jackass. Ironically I just was witness to a pretty bad auto accident today. And by witness I mean I was in the northbound left turn lane and someone ran a red clipped the tail end of a SUV going southbound and the SUV rolled like 10 feet from my car, I could literally see the girl in her car as it rolled past me. I ran over to her, she was alright though. Woman who ran the red was a illegal Mexican too ( I'm not racist but she didn't have a drivers licence)
