Scared shitless but...

Im going to try my first 3's off of cliffs in a week or two. Ive done my share of fat drops before, but always been a bitch about spinning. Anyone got any (real) advice so I can be a little more confident and hopefully ride away clean?

a question. are you comfortable spinning threes off of lets say a park table? but advice wise, youll naturally want to go slower. DONT go too slow. This makes your edges or skis more prone to catching. just hit the cliff at the same speed that you would if you were just going to hit it. if its a downward angle make sure to pop super hard. imo thats the key to downward take offs. just pop real hard and set your spin.

if the "lip" of the cliff is stepped out it is exacltly like a jump, just feels different in the air.
if it is pow you have to be super patient so you don't catch your skis on the edge and die, and pop more than you usually would off a cliff (if you pop off them at all)

just giver though, and hope for a rock free landing, good luck dude!

if you've done some "pretty big drops" before, then you have obviously taken some falls off of cliffs.... as long as there is pow it usually doesn't hurt. No different with 3s... it won't hurt so just go for it.

Do you have any advice for when i try the kangaroo flip tomorrow? I'm not really going to do it, I dont need any real advice, I just want to feel better about myself by making people think I'm going to throw something

okay sometimes kids are claiming with these threads, like if someone actually did ask for advice on kang flips, but this kid just wanted some tips on 3's on cliffs

dont you think that if he was trying to claim he would have said a harder trick..

Wow. This is newschoolers these days huh? A kid can't even ask for advice without getting called out for something or another.

The most important thing is to remember to land like you normally would in pow (if you are) I know that when I started learning tricks into pow specifically spinning I would try and land like I was in the park. You have to remember to land like you normaly would in pow. It's hard espacially if you are used to landing them in the park.

There's no trick tip thats really going to help you. You just gotta do it.

If you can do a 3 and you can hit a cliff, then just do the thing.

No sense making a thread about it.

Yeah, 20 is PLENTY for 3s, i do em off 5 footers. The only difference between cliffs and flatter park jumps is that youre gonna want to suck your feet up a little more to  keep your spin controlled.

pop really hard with your legs, set your spin as you leave the snow so you don't catch your tips. Suck up your legs and keep them wide (do a safety or something) to control your spin.

It feels different but once you get it it makes sense.

dont freak out and spin to fast so you get back to looking forward or chances are you will start overrotating a bit and end up slightly sideways and eat it!

hahaha this actually works, just be confident and commit. More than likely you are going to bring it around to your feet.

also remember to set your spin just as you normally would. pop then set the spin. the first time i tried spinning off a cliff I got a little nervous I wouldn't bring it around so I wound up super hard. I began to unwind before I had actually popped and ended up spinning 180-270 super fast then just stopping. I landed perpendicular to downhill and tomahawked for a little bit

spin slower than you'd think, suck your legs up, finish your rotation so you can spot the fuck out of your landing, do it in a lot of pow, try it on something like 10 ft

theres been some advice in here that could potentially be helpful

sorry that everyone isnt a naturally amazing skier like you that doesnt need any help with anything. even the best skiers in the world get advice and tips on new stuff

by your logic if someone can throw a dub cork 12 and straight air a 40 foot cliff, they can dub cork 12 a 40 footer, no, they are gonna need a lot of practice and any useful tips they get they would consider.

you need to get over yourself, or just leave

I just got my 3 off cliffs this last weekend...I kinda just spun the same way i do off of jumps, but make sure you land farther back so as to avoid your tips diving.

Actually yeah, there have been some good points made in this thread that have made me feel a lot more confident about it. Im not scared of getting hurt at all I guess, there was just sort of a mental block because I didn't know exactly what I would have to do different on a cliff than in the park. I feel I could do it a lot more after this thread than before it, so thanks for the advice.

Too bad theres some assholes that just lurk waiting for someone not at their level to say something even remotely inexperienced so they can pounce and show how high and mighty they are. Im not an amazing skier, I ski cause I want to, I don't claim anything cause I rarely have anything gnarly to claim, so pre-claiming just sounds stupid. Did anyone consider that maybe some people legitimately might need a few pointers?

drop the cliff a few times first to get a feel for how much time you have.  after youve done that you should know about how hard to huck your spin.  throw it like a normal 3, remember to stay up straight (its a little harder to stay vertical off a cliff vs a park jump or something) and spot your landing as early as you can.  stomp that shit and ride away clean leaving all the gapers on the lift in awe.

Was in no way bragging. Just saying these kind of threads are pointless.

He should just go and do it. No trick tip is really going to help him.

Advice go with a few friends that can do it first and then just do what they do or ask for a couple tips or some good words.


Hows about start small work your way up. All the advice you need. If you can't do a 3 in the first place, not amount of cliff drop tricks tips are going to help you
