Obama shuts down yucca mountain?

WTF is Obama's problem.   Nuclear power is the best thing ever and obama is fucking over all the nuclear plants because now they dont have a place to put their waste. Yucca mountain cost 13 billion. I feel like obama wants to fuck over this country.

i am pretty liberal and support most of what obama does, but closing yucca is such a bad idea, its one of the safest ways of storing used U-235 right now, and now there is no storage area for the U235 and it cant be properly taken care of

especially since theres already a TON of nuclear waste in there that will be radioactive for hundreds of thousands of years, what is shutting it down going to do?

Wow first thing he has done that actually grinded my gears. Yucca mountain is in the middle of fucking no where deep in the ground. It is probably the best place to store radioactive materials.

I guss i dont know if your serious or not but thats a really good idea.  Launching it into the sun would be a great way to get rid of it.  However I dont know what the economic effects of launching rockets into space is and it would be crazy crazy crazy expensive.

Im not too familiar with this but the bottom line is we need to start making more energy in this country, period.

I do not care if its more coal, or natural gas, or wind or solar energy. we need to make more energy to survive in the future. this importing of oil is bankrupting our country and its only going to get worse. Obama shutting down a power plant is only hurting us in the long term.

we need to protect the environment but we need to have a balance between protecting the environment and producing energy.

if you're not familiar with it, why jump on the bandwagon? i'm not trying to hate, just bring you up to speed. yucca mountain is not a power plant, its where we were planning on storing all our nuclear waste. we're not shutting down nuclear by any means, and as far as i know, the obama administration is in favor of expanding nuclear capacity in the US.

as for this whole yucca mountain deal, it really doesn't matter anyway. we already have more spent nuclear fuel than can be stored in the space available, no one can agree on how to store it or transport it, and it's just been a huge money sink since the idea was first conceived. i totally support nuclear expansion, but WE NEED TO START REPROCESSING FUEL like the rest of the developed world does. like everything else america does, it results in excessive waste, and i think we can all agree that nuclear waste is something we don't need more of.

i dont think i said "clean coal" but i agree with you. there is a lot more options out there than clean coal.

im in great falls as you probably know, and we were suppose to get a coal fired power plant and it got shut down. now they want to build a natural gas fired power plant. anyways.. point is we need more energy, its just what source the government deems necessary to make. here in Montana we are actually developing more and more wind farms, which i like.

werd to that. ive also seen some crazy shit about building wind farms in the ocean, which was pretty crazy.

and im not even talking about coal from a global warming standpoint, before someone jumps on me for that. in terms of normal pollutants, coal is just not a good idea.

coal is such an environmental monster from all sides its crazy. but what's unfortunate is that we have so damn much of it and its so cheap to get.

ocean wind farms are awesome except when people like the douches on nantucket lobby against it because it puts a dot on the horizon of their million dollar view. tidal energy/turbines are super fascinating as well. i think ocean-driven energy in one form or another is going to explode in the future

i pretty much agree with you. coal is just dirty in general. even if they have so called "clean coal" i still think there are better alternatives to coal which are far more productive.

what people dont understand is, even without cap and trade passed, companies in this country have to follow such stringent rules and regulations is ridiculous. its all for the best in the long run but new companies in this country have to follow pretty intense rules.

I think we are going to see such ground breaking inventions in energy in the coming decades that it will put the advent of the incandescent light bulb to shame. im excited actually to see what going to happen in the energy field in the coming years.

i strongly agree with you. my girlfriend's parents work for a company called LM Glassfiber in Grand Forks, ND and it was amazing touring the plant. I am such a strong supporter of wind farms. they are amazing, a little pricey for a wind mill but totally worth the investment.

Nuclear power is neither horrible or so much more extreme in terms of danger, people are just dumb as fuck.  Chernobyl, terrorism, & The Simpsons should not be the first thing that comes to mind when nuclear power is referenced.  Neither should George W. Bush and his ridiculous pronunciation. 

In reality, it's extremely beneficial to our lives.  The sad part is that the majority of the world's population doesn't have a clue.

i agree with you for the most part, but if anything i think that people tend to overstate/overassume (is that even a word?) how strict corporate regulations are. there are so many loopholes for major industry, particularly regarding air and water quality. did you know that companies can still buy permits to release raw sewage into water bodies (including tributaries of those used for drinking water)? anyway, like you, i hope that the next decade brings about exciting change in energy and environmental policy.

i agree with you for the most part i guess. i should only talk about what i know about. what i know is furniture (thats what i sell) i know that if you build a new plant, say to make foam for seats in furniture, you cannot build a plant that makes foam from CFCs. you have to use a water based foam or a soy based foam or something other than CFCs. which is good. but compared to the rest of the modern world, we have pretty stringent rules.

And to add, if one of our own Major's in our military, on the largest Military Base in the world killed over a dozen and injured over 2 dozen, we're worried about the security of a huge mine full of radioactive shit waiting to hit half life?  Yeah, we've got shit under control.  Definitely!
