Nitro Circus Roner Base Jump Accident

I dont know if this is a report or even if it is recent, but did anyone see Roner fuck up completely on that base jump with Pastrana? It was at that big bridge in Idaho. You could tell that Roner was clearly shaken up by it. That was a close call. for sure.

yeah i saw it, thats one of my favorite shows.. but yeah he was obviously shook by it but he ended up being fine. thats crazy though

sorry dont have a link, i just saw on demand. it seemed like a very recent episode. roner and pastrana did a tandum jump together and roner was supposed to jump off pastrana's back early and do a backflip and open his shoot, but he jumped off REALLY late and opened his shoot just in time and smacked the water hard.

I think he barely survived that sucker. From what it looked like (tivo status) his chute deployed probably with him 10 feet above the ground, barely slowing him down enough to keep him alive.

I remember seeing that in the news.  If it was the same newscast I remember he was pretty hurt.  It could be a different one.  Around the same time he jumped someone else jumped (within a week or so) and one of them was hurt pretty bad.  Im trying to find the store in the local news.

it was kinda funny watching it because they had practiced before into a pool and they did terrible. then the whole time before the jump they were joking about how terrible they would be at it. then they did it and afterward they were talking about how they had totally miscommunicated while in the air. it just seems dumb to me to try something without having a set system of communicating and not having it down in practice.

What's it like being retarded? Does it hurt? Stupidest comment I have heard in a long time. GTFO

I was thinking that was a pretty gutsy thing to try when I first saw it and I was kind of surprised Roner went through with it since he is pretty anal about equipment setups. Being meticulous with these setups is how he got on the show in the first place. Also, adding that BASE jumping has the highest death rate of any sport (5%) and injury rate (90%), it is a little confusing why they went through with it after the pool jumps were half fail.

In theory, their idea should have worked, a little sketchy but it should have worked... and technically did work (nobody died). It's just shocking as to why and how the communication got so bad during the fall. That probably should have been covered a little better. The part I get and that I love about Nitro Circus is their sheer talent and reliability on this talent to get them through the stunt alive.

That said, I'm glad everybody is ok. It did make for some amazing entertainment though...

One of my buddies i work with base jumps all the time, and he said that roner is the dumbest guy ever when it comes to base jumping.  I guess he is just stupid and doesn't do anything that he should to stay safe and he is lucky to even be alive with some of the stuff he has seen him do.

that was also an incredibly dumb idea in the first place, how was roner expected to hold onto travis perfectly straight and jump off early enough to get the chute open?

he had enough time if they would have done it correctly. they were supposed to flip then travis was supposed to throw it but he didnt flip quick enough and roner let go when he shouldnt have.

pastrana had an unpacked chute in his hand and roner was on his back he was supposed to dive off of pastrana then pastrana was supposed to throw the chute then roner was supposed to throw his chute after he was clear of travis.

Yeah, that was really stupid on their part. I'm glad he's okay, but that was just really stupid. Right before that, they have Roner's voice over and he says: "This isn't motorcycles, if something goes wrong, you're dead." Yet, he decides to try something which can very easily go wrong. I just wouldn't really fuck around with something like BASE jumping when there is NO room for error.
