Glasses, contact lenses, or lasik.

so if you're like me and can't see shit, your at a huge disadvantage. glasses inside goggles shouldn't even really be an option, prescription goggles are out there, but i have been wearing contacts since i was 12.

my contacts have always given me problems, but this summer i hit a booter with sunglasses on, and right before takeoff my contacts malfunctioned. i had set a spin so i just went with it, with my eyes closed. i ended up putting a 5 to my feet and then my ass, but this could have been deadly.

this morning i had lasik eye surgery, and i can already see. ive been researching this for three years, so im not saying people should do what i did, but this thread is for us blind folks to discuss how we get through it.

i've skied with glasses for like 10 years, it really sucks plus you look retarded. I got contacts and they haven't bugged me yet, haven't seriously skied with them yet though

just gotta wear goggles with them. Otherwise they will dry out during the day. And if there's any sort of precipitation, you are screwed.

When I was little I was the nerdy kid who couldn't see without glasses, but his parents wouldn't let him get contacts yet. I took a dive rockin a "black diamond" like a total badass and cut my face up pretty good.

Otherwise contacts haven't given me problems now that i'm all grown up. How's the Lasik? Do you see "halos" around lights like I always here. That sounds annoying and scary if its permanent.

My contacts usually don't give me problems unless my goggles aren't sitting right. If it gets super dry air in there, it makes them really uncomfortable. Glasses, you're right, just aren't an option for me.

Have a good friend getting Lasik in like two weeks, and I'm interested in seeing how it changes his season.

im glad i took care of mental retardation before my "eye retardation".  if your posting in this thread and don't have one of the fore mentioned dilemmas in your life, go troll somewhere else, i have a week of recovering, which means a week of NS.

i did alot of research before i went through with it. i found a really good doctor and had a very good procedure. two lasers and nothing touches my eyes, there is a 99.9 success rate, and like i said i can already see. they did tiger woods, ten years ago from yesterday, hes a billionaire.

I know someone that had lasik.  He was really happy until about 5 years later when all the sudden he stopped being able to see in the dark.  Nowadays he has to wear contracts again.

thats what im currently using and ive had 0 problems except forgetting to take them out at night once or twice because I forgot i have bad vision and I cant notice them

even though i hate contacts and im not a huge fan of wearing glasses I still wouldn't get lasik because my dad got it and he cant read anything up close now without reading glasses which would really annoy me more then not being able to see long distances

I've had eye problems for about 8 years. (Glasses for 7 years and contacts for 1). Skiing with glasses sucked a ton so I got contacts and I love them. Only downside is, they can (rarely) cause eye infections due to sleeping in them if they arent made for that among other things. I currently have one. Hurts sooo bad. But if you have the money, and your eyes are done changing, go for lasiks bro. The second i get old enough for it I'm doing it. I hate having to worry about contacts/glasses.

yeah i don't leave my house without my contacts in, and if i could afford lasik i'd probably get it (i'm still kinda sketched out by the idea of having a laser shot at my eyeball, plus i know a couple of people who had it and it didn't work for them).

no one has tried Rx goggles? i was going to have a pair made for me in breck, but i bought new boots instead.

lasik is a surgery and has downfalls, like reading glasses, but both of my parents need them, and the doc did tell me i would when i get mid 40.

i know someone that actually went blind after lasik, i myself either go without glasses under my goggles since my vision isnt completely terrible.  but i do have contacts and enjoy seeing clearly at all distances so i may start using my contacts too

nah, i just work, that's how i pay for my skiing also. this season will prolly cost more than my surgery.


even wearing goggles, if im straight lining at a jump my contacts do weird things. or if you ever lose one and have to go the rest of the day with only one contact, thats sucks.

no one has Rx goggles?

did you try many different brands of contacts? i was going though them really fast so i got a different brand and they work great. used to have to wear glasses skiing and it was the worst. no i just wear contacts when im like actually doing something and glasses when im just chillin or going to class. probably would never get lasik, still sketched about it.

I wear contacts when I ski, glasses when they're convenient, and will get lasik when my eyesight is consistent.

Your vision isn't stable until your mid twenties typically and I want to make sure it is before I drop a couple g's on the surgery.

yeah the way i seen it, 10 years of conatcs and glasses and hassle of it all is worth 3 grand.

i want to invent extreme contact lenses. for sports and working construction. it would just be an oversized contact lens that would inherently be harder to get in, but would hold its place better and protect more of the cornea. could this work, and how could i sell it to acuvue?

try acuvue 2 oasys / they work amazing for me, never had a problem skiing

I skied with contacts fo the first time this season. I use to tough it out before and not wear glasses. Contacts have been great except for very high speeds. When people focus, their rate of blinking decreases. The cold air and not blinking causes my eyes to water and my contacts start to float. It's like having crisco rubbed on your eyes.

Don't they make prescription goggles? i used to have glasses, but my vision improved and now I don't need them anymore. My dad needs to wear glasses though. He skis with his ray bans, he has some otg goggles but he never wears them.
