I was talking about DSLR Video vs Camcorder.
If your just looking at DSLR vs camcorder, go for DSLR. As ftk said, in order to start great video, you need light. Lighting is the key point to photo or video. However in order to make video look like cinema, rather then just using your standard handycam, you must use lighting. Depth of field is another huge part, but I would get into that. For video, ready Bare Bones Guide for Video, or something like that. Its $10 and should help a lot, with both video and photo. Picking up a DSLR would be easier to get into, learn how the camera works and then move into a camcorder.
Good luck and enjoy!
