Here is my current situation with Apple/Fedex (see bottom for sparksnotes):
I ordered a new iPod touch. The shipment was late (as usual with Fedex). I was home the day it was supposed to arrive but was unavailable the day it arrived late so I missed the delivery.
So I call Fedex and ask if I can pick up the package at their warehouse (since it was a Friday I wanted the package for the weekend). They say of course! However, the "local" fedex location is a 2.5 hour drive. And no I don't live in the middle of nowhere, I live in a city with a population over 80000 which has NO fedex location apparently. Obviously I was not going to drive 5 hours for my iPod.
So since pickup is not an option, I ask if they can instead deliver it to my landlords work address one the monday (since I will be in school all day and don't want to miss my package again and after the second try they don't come back). Fedex tells me that in order to change a package address I have to call Apple.
So I call Apple, after being on the phone for 40 minutes they are unable to change the shipping address. Apparently that is an impossible task. Instead they claim to call Fedex and allow an exception of the "door knocker policy" (for packages under $100 you can sign a slip they leave and they will leave the package at your door). Because my package was over $100 they normally can't do this, but they called Fedex and made an exception. I willingly agree despite not being super keen on leaving an iPod outside my door for anyone to grab or rain to fall on.
After getting off the phone with Apple I call Fedex back just to confirm that this exception was made. Shocker no one at fedex was contacted by Apple about my account. No exception was made. So basically I am back to square one.
I am simply going to leave a letter for fedex on my door that says either except this door knocker, deliver it to this other address, or GTFO.
Reasons why Apple/Fedex suck:
-the "local" pickup is 2.5 hours away
-once a package is shipped you can't change the address
-Apple and Fedex have extremely poor communication between one another
-first delivery was late
Is this situation not ridiculous?
