NS Photo Contest, Week 6

Ok, to start, props going out to the top 5 of last week.

And congrats to the winner, Dylan_ (by one vote up against b-ladd, nice job guys!) here is his topic of choice:

"TOPIC: City Life

City is for the most part a big influence on everyday life. People from the city may act and dress differently than you, and life in the city may be different than yours considering, subways, sky scrapers, and people traveling by foot and bike. Most people have made a trip into a big city before, therefore these shots can be represented what a city means to you. Such as your best shot of someoneâ€™s emotions, a long exposure of city lights or maybe even a homeless person. If you don't decide to take a city shot, or if youâ€™re not even near a city, take your best photo of something around you that represents city life. It could be you in your tall tee next to a tag someone tagged on the side of the building. Get creative."

Rules:
-you may post 1 PHOTO ONLY
-if your photo strays from the topic, explain why
-no hating other people's photos, constructive criticism only
-no voting for your own photo
-we will have a voting thread to determine top 5, then we will vote again to find the winner
-post your own photos
-click on embedded photos before judging, NS drains the color from them
-winner chooses the next topic
-you cannot win 2 times in a row, you can win twice, just not in a row

I took this picture from the train on the way to New York City, I believe it was in Bridgeport. This guy was just sitting on the bench listening to his ancient walkman, doin' his own thing. I know it's blurry, but I think it captures the individuality that makes city life what it is.

Every city has street performers. When I think of the city, street performers come straight to mind. They really do a great job of attracting attention to themselves and provide for unusual, but always interesting, forms of entertainment that people can see every day.

thanks man. my favorite part is how the building reaches above the sun just barely. Like man challenging the gods... (bullshit metaphorical insight but nonetheless an observation).

This is a photo shot at the Convention Center in Pittsburgh. This building will be the host of the G20 Economic Summit in September. This is a building that is almost never quiet, yet hidden in its underbelly is this serene walkway with water flowing on both sides of it. It is a place that I know I can escape to when the hustle of city life becomes too much to deal with. This photo is a nice reminder of what I love about living in Pittsburgh. It is beautiful and serene without losing the appeal of city life.

I think this is a good representation of city life, took this while in Boston on a foggy day. If you want the metaphor... it shows the struggle to get to the brighter side(success).
