Mass custom tees/hoodies
Has anyone noticed that all of a sudden there is a ton of kids starting there own "tall tee" business and what not? Just kinda weird i thought.
Who started the trend?
Well, I think you've got to blame guys like Henrik Harlaut for the super massive baggy trend that you're referring to. Although big hoodies have been around for a longer period of time than the period Henrik has been a pro, the massively oversized Hoodie-trend got amped up, big time when he started using that 5XL LRG Hoodie Phil Casabon aka B-Dog gave him. I guess he just showed everyone that covering as much as your knees with hoodies looked kinda good, and instead of going out and buying an expensive LRG Hoodie (btw, it's not expensive); someone got the idea of making their own sizes to fit their needs. This made the hoodies wearable for literally everyone, even our team, D2EMedia@www.d2emedia.com got our own Tall-Hoodie-Shop for Norwegians (which will hopefully go international) with limitless designs, colors, sizes both in Width and Height, making these types of hoodies some ground-draggers; even for John Spriggs.
I think everybody has had their own spark of ideas for a business lately because of the economy and need of money.
As to who "started" the trend, i'm lost. Id have to say it was just a coming of time where lots of kids started to see pros with huge hoodies and tees and a lot of them being custom made sparked the idea. I know for me Ive been making tees and hoodies for years now, but rarely marketed them simply because there is not a large enough demand. Its the simple laws of economics. About a year ago I sold probably 30 custom shirts on here, but it took a long time and I heard wayyyy to much whining about my prices being too high. What most kids fail to understand is the time and money that goes into a product before it can be resold. Design time, apparel cost, print sizes, number of screens, ink quality, number of colors, shop time in producing the shirt, and many more factors all play into the final price for just a tee shirt. Most people don't even flinch when they drop $25 bucks on a quicksilver tee or hoodie and fail to realize it only costs that company a matter of cents per shirt because of the quantity they are producing them in. As for hoodies i've also sold a few here on NS, but never under a company name or trying to make money on them. They were just a few of mine that I didn't wear anymore. In closing, I think that most kids will find their hopes of making $$$ on a custom hoodie of tee shirt far harder than it seems at first. A few will manage to kick out a sweet handmade product and make a buck or two, and maybe even take it farther because thats how most companies start. But with the growing number of larger companies also catering to the "unique apparel wearing" demographic it will be harder and harder for someone with little to no business experience to be successful. I say forget paying for something someone else made and do it yourself, which i have, and it costs me pennies compared to buying an off-the-shelf product, and no one else in the world will ever wear what im wearing. Well, thats my 2 cents. Booyah!
Uhhhhh, because owning a company like Saga or Jiberish would be bomb.
