This thread proves exactly why the world looks down on people from the US. Arrogance, greed, laziness, and an attitude of self-superiority that gets shoved in everyone's faces are why people stereotype "Americans". Look at the title of an "American" person. As far as I know Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, etc are all countries in America as well, yet the USA deserves the title? I don't mind, I just think it's funny and kinda representative of the general attitudes...
And it's shown by posts in this thread too. Instead of being open minded at the possibility that your country isn't the most important in the world there are claims of all sorts of things, trying to prove that the USA is the best. Then the whole "who cares about Canada" thing too... For the wealth that the US apparently has (but doesn't really because the deficit is in the trillions if I'm not mistaken) the level of education for the majority of people is laughable.
I like the US mostly, and the open-minded accepting people who are educated enough to see the world's cultures and respect them all. I don't see that respect from the majority of americans however. I see a "me me me" focused society.
As for traveling and experiencing more cultures than everyone else, I don't think that's true either. For example, going to mexico and sitting in an all inclusive resort filled with more white people than mexicans is hardly experiencing culture. I know many Canadians and Europeans are the same, but I'm talking majorities here. When I have traveled through the small towns of England or the unknown parts of Sweden or the slums of Thailand, or even touring the coast of Australia, not really any Americans to be seen. The ones that we did see were very accepting of the culture and loving spending time in a different place with different food and different people and different customs.
However, most of the people on NS I think, no matter what country they're from, have a very good attitude in relation to the stereotypes.
