If you have seen some of our recent activity in the thread that I originally posted about ON3P Skis, you have probably ready that we were finally about to obtain the funding we needed to get started.  It has been a long, long year working towards this and it definitely feels pretty good to [B]finally [/B]be up and running.

The last week has been pretty hectic, trying to finishing the graphics we needed to complete our line, reconnect with all our material suppliers so we can start purchasing materials, and negotiating the terms on our new factory, which is going to be just a bit nicer than our garage in Tacoma ;)!

Website is been slowly going up all week and for the most part, is now all up and running.  [url]www.on3pskis.com[/url].  Nothing fancy, but functional and affordable, which for me is more important right now since I would rather have cash to spend on tools and materials than a super pretty, custom website.  If you are having any issues with it, please let me know and we will try to get them resolved as soon as possible.  Hopefully everything should be up and running smoothly.

Sam Caylor just officially made the move to Portland, and we will likely be looking to add a 3rd in the up-coming weeks, likely as some sort of paid internship that will last from mid-August to around December.  If we like you, too, we might bring you back full time in the spring.

As far as our pre-sale - because it is later in the summer to start this than I originally wanted, we are only going to be taking a limited number of sales right now so we can focus on getting them delivered on time, at which point we will loop back around and press/finish the rest of our inventory.  Once we reach our desired pre-sale number, we will stop the sale for the time being.

Even with some considerable material delay, I am confident that we should be able to start shipping out skis in early November and have every pair shipped by the end of the month.  Just so you guys aren't in the dark about how ON3P is progressing, I am going to be doing weekly updates on the blog on our homepage which will detail how things are going and where we sit production wise.

Warranty info should be up on the website in the next few days.

Payment - right now we can only accept orders through paypal (with a paypal account) or by check or money order.  We are working on getting a merchant account that will allow us to accept debit/credit cards up, and if that changes, I would post about it.

I have had several people ask if we are doing more custom stuff like we did last year, or if skis are more set in stone.  Flex wise, we have finalized the flex patterns we feel are best for each model.  I might be able to make small changes here or there, but for the most part, the flexes are set.

Topsheets wise - if you really want a ski but absolutely hate the topsheet, just talk to me.  I am sure we can work something out.  I can only offer this for a brief period of time, though.  Once I put in our topsheet order in the next few weeks, it is going to be a lot more difficult for me to be accommodating here.

So really, I guess that is it.  I have a ton to do all week long, but contact me anytime with questions you might have.

I've read some really dumb shit people have posted on NS, but congratulations b/c this just made it to the top of the list. In regards to the "dripping paint theme" have you ever even looked at the style of painting that some of the worlds most highly regarded painters have used in the past? Go and look at how Claude Monet and Van Gogh were painting at the ends of their lives b/c with what you're saying is they must of been amateur too. As far as it also reflecting the quality of these skis, have you ever read a review of a single pair of ON3P skis?

Are you missing something?  Not at all.  If you don't like the graphics, then you don't like the graphics.  No one can really fault you for your personal tastes.  We would disagree with you, but if you aren't stoked on em, there is nothing we can do.

We knew going into this that you can't please everyone, and I don't feel the need to.   Nor does our graphics guy.  We love what we do and are in this as much for ourselves as we are for anyone else, and we think are skis look awesome and ski even better.

I very rarely hear negative things about the graphics, but with any product you put up for sale, especially on places like NS with high levels of traffic, you will find wide ranging opinions, and you can hit the mark all the time.

For the most part, everyone seems stoked on the graphics, and that is enough for me.

For what it is worth, I think those small, low quality images don't do the graphics any bit of justice.  They look a lot better on skis and I think most who have seen em would agree.

So if dripping paint comes off as amateur to you....

then it comes off amateur.  I don't think that should be a reflection of the product we put out, but if it is, that is unfortunate.  So while it sucks that you don't like the graphics, I know a lot of people out there who do, and I hope they find the skis kick ass.

hey dude, i'm the guy who did all the ON3P graphics. I don't take offense to your statement, because put simply, everyone likes different stuff! hopefully you have the opportunity to demo them or something and see how much they rip, because that's what it's really about. hopefully overall, people do like the graphics, but i accept that not everyone will.

i appreciate people coming to my defense, but it's not necessary.

as far as how it came about and why, it's actually been a long time coming. i painted the original graphics (the ones that are now on the Great Scott, Caylor, and Wrenegade) over three years ago. the prototypes used these graphics. the other graphics were all painted in july of this year. the style of it doesn't really have any specific reason behind it. i get to do whatever i feel like, and i don't usually plan it much beforehand. i guess there is dripping paint in most of the graphics, but that isn't really a theme, it just happened and i ran with it.

well thanks for all the responses, i was seriously expecting to log on today and my karma be down to zero.

just to my defense though, dripping paint in street art or graffiti is 9/10 due to lack of quality or skill on the part of the artist.  hence, it had me wondering since some of the art on the skis is actually pretty cool but in my opinion the dripping paint just doesn't look professional but seems to be a reoccuring theme.

i know how much time and effort went into the production because i read through the blog a long time ago, and was just curious about the graphics because as a consumer as lame as it sounds they do factor into the decision to purchase a product,

most people won't see dripping paint as messy when they are looking at a spraypaint job, because most people don't judge it based on the standards that someone who actually does graffitti or street art will.
Most people see drips and think "oh, spraypaint stencil".

When I paint, I like to get messy. Drips and such are a product of the medium for me. If I paint, and it drips, I roll with it. On the flip side, if I am drawing with sharpies, it ends up being precise and graphical. It's all about the medium.

Not trying to speak for matty, that's just my personal take on it. So i like it.

UGH if I had the money to put forward right now, I would buy the Jeronimos in the blink of an eye.  But I'm getting the Moment Rockers because I can get them for 399 midseason, when I have enough money.  I'll keep an eye out for markdowns though, because I really want the Jeronimos!

Oh by the way, can the Jeronimos be dead center mounted or are they really not built for that?  And how is the flex on them?  Are they easy to butter?  Lastly, how are they on rails?  Or are they not really built for that?

Can they be?  Yep.

Will it be exactly what I designed them for?  Not exactly, but close.  They are meant to function as all-mountain capable park ski.  So having the mount just a touch back, around 3cm, opens up their ability all mountain more than a dead center mount, without taking away much of their park ability.

It is a medium flex.  The rocker helps make it easier to butter.

They should be fine on rails, too.  Extra thick edges help with that.

They are similar to Seths. If you are like me, and you like a bigger, beefier ski in the park, they can for sure be mounted dead center without feeling strange. symmetrical park skis didn't even exist till a couple years ago.

I ski an old ON3P protoype as my park ski, they are 115 underfoot and not symmetrical, pretty similar to the current Jeronimo, just fatter. And they absolutely kill it in the park. I rode them last year, and a few times at the jib yard since then, and I haven't had any problems with de-lams because of rails. They have thinner edges than the production models too.

at the moment we are still in the creative process as far as base graphics go, but rest assured as soon as we having something that we are satisfied with and think everyone will like we will be sure to post it up for everyone to see.

Consider doing a simple black base with the "ON3P" or the 3 logo on them.  Those would be simple, but sweet.  I'm sure you already have a ton of sick designs too, but I personally like both simple and crazy for bases.

What i think would look good would be to have the 3 logo splashed around on the bases as well as this. If you did this with like a lighter color that way the text would stand out more.

That sounds sick too.  You can also mix match bases so that one is simple and one is more busy.  No one really sees them, so it's fair game for just about anything.  I'm stoked to see what comes out.

they also require expensive die cutters and/or slower base material. theyre rockin race base right now, shits fast. gets you higher out of the pipe or over the road youre gappin. base graphics are over rated, with the exception of hellbents.

I would not want to see scott do d cut bases. Although really I'm perfectly happy with my black racebase, couldn't really care less what's on the bottom of the skis.

If i didnt already have my skis for this coming season.  I would have loved to try a pair of blue steeles or jeronimos.  The price is such a steal too.  I actually like the graphics alot, different from everything else out there right now.  Good luck and maybe one day youll have an order for a pair of on3p skis from me!

Soo, Billy Goat's and Caylor's...could I get some feedback on the differences and intended purposes for each ski...this has been eating me alive...

ps-I'm 6ft 195lbs, I ski everywhere in anything, by myself or with others like myself I charge hard...with others I take a more playful jib esk approach, I land switch often...I like the sound of the wrenegade and Great scott but am slowing moving away from that type of ski...I've skiied most skis, but being that I'm talking about the caylors and billys I'll talk about hell bents...I like the hellbents on days with deep snow but I'm frustrated with them anywhere else...

Well the Caylors are somewhat similar to the hellbents, so what in particular frustrate you about them? The Caylors are much stiffer and far better suited to charging than then bents. The flex also makes them better at speed on groomers. The Billy Goat will be a little better in the trees and WAY better on groomers.

They just weren't stiff enough for me but it sounds like you guys alleviated that problem with the caylors....so if the billys and caylors are a little stiffer, are you able to open up the speed? You guys say that the billys are great for the trees, why is this? are they able to pivot and release easier than the caylors? just trying to figure out the differnces and mainstays for each ski.

the billy goat has shorter turn radius and tapered tip and tail, makes it easier to pivot turns. easier pivoting = better in trees i think it the logic.

The Billy Goats are an all mountain directional ski. yes they can ski switch, but not near as well as well as the caylor can. They are both great skis, but if you plan on skiing switch a lot, especially in powder I would lean toward the Caylor.

the tight turning radius on it is what allows the quick turning, the taper adds stability to the ski allowing you to point it with out the ski dancing all over the place. With powder skis that have a tight turning radius you find that the tips can sometimes catch and pull you into a turn, especially in crud. The tapered tips keep this from happening and the tip pointing in the direction you want them too. The taper in the tails keeps the back of the ski from locking you into a turn and makes it easy to release a turn, and more fluid to go turn to turn.
