Crossfit - the ultimate offseason workout

By far the best workout I've ever done to prepare for a season of shredding (not to mention general strength and health.)  It combines compound movements (i.e. olympic lifts, pull-ups, etc.) with short, intense bursts of cardio for a complete, full-body workout.  Workouts rarely take longer than 20 minutes, but you will be wasted after almost all of them.

Some examples of Crossfit workouts:

5 rounds for time of:
400 meter run
95 pound Overhead squat, 15 reps

Ten rounds for time of:
3 Weighted Pull-ups, 45 pounds
5 Strict Pull-ups
7 Kipping Pull-up

Four rounds for time of:
Run 400 meters
50 Squats

As many rounds as possible in twenty minutes of:
5 pull-ups
10 push-ups
15 squats

Most cities have dedicated Crossfit gyms with trainers certified to teach the movements and theories of Crossfit.  This is not cushy personal training at Gold's Gym.  It is the sport of fitness.

My stepdad owns a CrossFit and boxing gym. I've never even done one CrossFit workout though. He came home yesterday and told me 3 people threw up after the workout.  Doesn't sound appealing to me.

I've got some friends and a few co-workers that do Crossfit.  They have nothing but good things to say about it IF you are willing to work hard and push yourself.

I've only thrown up once, right  when I started doing it a year ago.  It sucks when it's happening, but shit like that is just a sign that you're pushing yourself far beyond your normal limits.  Last weekend I managed to tear four calluses off my hands during a pull-up workout.  Bleeding on the bar while I was trying to do pull-ups...not fun at all but totally hardcore.

I do crossfit on a regular basis.

After each crossfit workout I am always more tired than any other workout I have done.

Man this is an old thread, but my friend and I are trying to commit to incorporate this into the regular weight training; we did Fran the other week, I couldn't finish and had to chew it back for like 15 min

It's good to knock your confidence back down to zero every now and then, otherwise, you're overly confident. Awesome though, it really throws a wrench in your training.

crossfit moved into the raquetball club i used to work at, they are INTENSE, but people love it. id watch fatties, or outta shape people come in and sign up at the beginning of the session and leave a totally new person, healthy and in shape

We have been doing CrossFit here in the U.S. Army for quite some time now. It works really well.

I have been doing crossfit for a couple months now and I really like it. Once in a while I will try to do the seal fit.

I did the Friday one...

Baseline: ROM drills. Then set up stations and do warm-up sets of each lift. Then do 5 reps at your working load. Then finish with 20 reps of box jump and wall ball each.

Strength/Stamina/WC: Adam Brown: 2 RFT:

24 x Dead Lift (295#)
24 Box Jumps
24 x Wall Ball
24 x Bench Press (195#)
24 x Box Jumps
24 x Wall Ball
24 x Power Clean (145#)

Durability: Run 1.5 miles at fast pace. Plank hold 2 x 3 minutes. Stretch.

And I am still so sore its incredible. Took about 40 mins of pure pain then I puked doing the planks haha.

sounds like the least fun form of working out ever, and highly unsustainable. Id rather just keep lifting heavy ass weight, wait 3-4 minutes then repeat.

i think its good to cycle in for 2 weeks as training for an event or upcoming season, but you wont see the muscle building results that you would from a real weight program.

also, it would take a special kind of person to keep their motivation up for months on end while doing a really painful, uncomfortable workout.

meh, to each their own though.

My Dad did something pretty similar that for 15 minutes and got around 14, the gym has it posted on the wall. He's 50 so that's pretty impressive.
