I got fat!? what the eff...

So I'll preface this by saying that i was 5a varsity soccer player in high school, played year round, skied a shitton and didn't drink that much in high school. weighed in at about a lean 160

Summer before my junior year of college, i'm 172!? my muscle mass is generally bigger, per se, but I've definitely got some spare tire action goin on when I sit/ do crunches. I now drink more (duh, college), probably eat less healthy, and don't play socer/ ski as much (college in the midwest/poor.) WTF!!! anyone else got this problem? I'm running, lifting, ab-working my ass off but can't seem to get rid of this shit. any advice?

12 extra lbs really isnt a lot. and you should be able to lose it fast. but yeah, drinking = a lot of calories, so does pizza and whatever college foods youre eating. you need to up the fruit and veggie in take and do some cardio, you know, all that food pyramid shit they fed you as a child in primary and such, wasnt bullshit. its true.

Just watch what you eat man. I don't count calories or even stop myself from eating pretty much everything I want but I am aware and try to make good decisions when I can. I started running occasionally and hitting the gym once or twice a week, so it's not even a major commitment. Sometimes I even miss a week or two and it doesn't affect me at all.

After college I weighed about 190 (I'm 6'1") so I was slightly above normal weight but ever since then I've been more conscious about what I'm eating and I got down to 170 very easily and without taking away from my drinking, eating late night, and all that good stuff. I stay in the 170-175 range now with little to no effort and without a major lifestyle change.

at least i played rugby in college...

just wait till u graduate, get a job, and sit behind a desk all week without any concern for exercise other than drinking during kickball in the park on sundays...

im not fat yet but i am definately the most out of shape of my entire life

but really, peoples metabolisms just start to slow a bit after those teenage years of puberty and growing.  At some point humans stop growing vertically and horizontal gravity starts to kick in.

ok to answer some questions i got:

I am 5'11'', I go to Miami University (ohio), yes my drinking team has a waterskiing problem, and I'm alternating running and lifting 5 days a week to fix this shit. I was (and somewhat still) very active and it pisses me off that I have put on bad weight. Its soooo much easier to stay fit at home in Colorado, there is so much to do!

There's plenty of information there and probably better help too.

To be honest, what you're doing is going to eventually get you results if you stick with it(going to the gym 5 days a week and eating healthy).  You don't seem like an idiot.

The only real suggestion I can give you is start making a log of everything you eat, and everything you do at the gym. 

And...ofcourse, don't forget your cheat meal, once a week.  If you don't have one, you're going to ruin your diet by binging out another time anyway.  Plus, it's nice to treat yourself after a week's hard work.

just stop eating so much/drinking so much. eat healtier shit. I dont work out at all besides what i do everyday as far as running around outside and climbing trees/fucking around, but I've been losing weight for the past like 5 months because i figured out how to eat when I'm hungry and not when I'm bored.

hmmmm, i went on a 3 week ski trip... thought eating salads everyday for lunch, plus skiing my arse off would cut some weight, ended up getting food poisening from a chicken ceaser salad! havent touched the shit since

Basically it comes down to calories in < calories out. I have been in the process of losing weight this summer after a particularily unactive winter semester due to a brutal school schedule.

this !  i used to drink soda, sports drinks, everything.   but now nothing is better than a glass full of ice, with some cold water. and yeah i dont haveta feel bad drinking it hah

hahah see i gained like 15 pounds but am still as in shape as i always have been. just played a full 90 minute soccer game hard and felt the same as when i was lighter. still need to shred the pounds though.

I am a firm believer that weightlifting is 80% what you eat.  After the gym you go get fast food your workout is a complete lost. Eat healthy and work hard in the gym and you will see results.
