Does this sound like a scam to you?

so im looking at buying this car. the price is too good to be true. but i emailed the guy anyway asking about it.

he said right now he is in scotland but the car is in bc (where i am). he says he wants to get rid of it cause he is going through a divorce.

if i went and met with someone in person at the car. brought it too a mechanic and had it checked out by icbc (insurance/crashes etc.) do you think i should go for it?

Sorry for the delayed response, but I'm in Scotland (United Kingdom) right now and I have been very busy. Anyway, thank you for your interest in buying the car. The car is located in Canada right now. Why is the price so low?I am going trough a divorce, and I had to move out of Canada.So all that I want to do now is to sell the car at this price, because I need to sell it fast.The title is clean. The car has 6,000 mileage, and 6 Speed manual transmission.It is in immaculate condition, rust free, no scratch and hasn't been involved in any accident. The motor runs very well. The interior looks great. This car needs nothing. I want this transaction to go smoothly enough as I am caught in the middle of some very important events and have little time to my disposal. I already have tones of emails so I hope you understand that I need to sort them out.. The price is C$5,000.00. THIS IS MY LAST PRICE.I will not negotiate the price. Also, I take in consideration only those buyers who are really interested in buying the car, to be sure that I don't waist my time with endless discussions. This way, I shall be assured of the serious intentions.

yeah but if i get it checked out by a mechanic and icbc il know if anything is wrong and if its stolen or been in any accidents. and as long as i can meet with someone in person...

what can go wrong?

if it seems too good to be true, chances are, it is.

it sounds pretty sketchy to me. but i'm no expert.

well once again. im just trying to figure out what could go wrong if i take the steps i was talking about.

as long as i get it checked out to see if its stolen or something is seriously wrong with it. what can go wrong?

fuck i shouldnt have got my hopes up haha.

im gonna ask him either way if he agrees to let me see a mechanic and icbc. just cause i want to know if theres still a way to scam you after that.

if you are allowd to go look at the car then it isnt a scam. but chances are it deff is, did he ask you for money ahead of time?

So go get it checked out, as long as you can do that before you buy it.  And if you can get a carfax report. do that too.  But to get fucked over when buying a car is a HUGE pain in the ass.  Be extra careful, and don't trust the guy until you know for sure he isn't scamming you, beyond a shadow of a doubt.

it doesnt sound completly natural but who knows, just if you look a the car make sure theres no scratched off serial numbers before you do anything

Jack I am very interested in the car. However I would like to meet with someone in person AT the car and have it checked out by a mechanic and by icbc. Where abouts in Canada is it? I'am hoping in bc as that is where it came up as in auto trader.

Also does it have it's papers/registration serial numbers?

I hope you understand that the price is a bit suspicious. I just want to make sure the car is not stolen or damaged in any way and that this is not a scam.

But if you agree to these terms I would buy and pick up in the next few days.

if he lets me come see the car i'l be curious. i want to know how these scams work. im guessing he will want me to send the money directly to him through some weird bank system or site. and then it will all fall apart for me.

he just sent me this:

After I will have all this details I will forward them to eBay Motors and I will proceed the order. eBay Motors will contact you with all the details that you need to complete this deal and also to see that i am covered by them and that I am legit seller. Waiting your email with the requested details.

Hey Jack,

This deal sounds awesome. Now I am going to ignore the fact that the first email you sent was so generic that when i put in google, pages came up with the exact same wording and you just changed a couple things. The fact of how easy it is to send me a fake ebay invoice and "protection plan" email if i just give you my name and other information and don't actually put it in on the ebay site.

I will also ignore the fact that i know you will want me to pay with some moneygram payment. Which ebay does not do.

So when can we get going here, I'am anxious to lose my 5 grand and want it gone and never to be seen again by me. It won't be too bad, i think me and my friends are just gonna sit besides each other and run around and pretend that were that car i was hoping to get.

I'd say it may be a scam. I found a 2009 toyota sequoia, platinum version for 9,000. The guy said he was going throw a divorce and its in Gerorgia, somebody could drive it up and i would have to pay over paypal. It was obviously a scam because paypal is easy to scam on and it was a vehicle worth 55k.
