My Dad Could Die

So yea the title says it and im really worried. ill give you the story behind it. and please dont be dicks cuz im really worried about it.

so my dad has had high blood pressure for years now and it runs in the family. He got hospitalized 7months ago becuase he fainted and they said it was from the blood pressure and all that shit.

heres where it gets kinda scary. he hasnt had a good sleep for about 14 years. His mom has insomnia. So my dad finally went to a sleep clinic and they found out he wakes up on average 2 times a minute and half. The doctor told him about the risks if he doesnt get it fixed:

He can gain about 40 more pounds and he can fall into greater depression which he is already in and the scariest part of all is he is 5 times more likely to have a heart attack any time now! The doctor put him on a breathing machine to help him sleep and he is noticing a difference but the changes are small.

im just really worried and it sounds dumb but im getting super stressed out and i feel like i get alot of axiety. im not a person to go to those shrinks and talk about my feels or anything so if someone has gone though something like this pm me or something. thanks

my grandmother has insomnia and i wake up sometimes at two in the morning to get some water and shell just be sitting in her rocking chair eyes wide open but not responding to anything.

yea we did hes taking the right pills and doing the right thins but for now its really risky and it seems like its not doing alot. so thats why im so worried

that really sucks, + vibes for sure. if depression is one of the things stressing him out it might be good to spend a lot of time with him doing stuff you guys both like to do.

thats actually a great idea. me and him to hunting all the time. i should plan a weekend to go to our cottage to hunt and fish or something. thanks

talk to him about it. if you guys are on the same page, itll be easier for him to work toward his goal of being healthier/ doing whatever he needs to do to recover. you might have already done this, but either way, don't freak out, i don't want to speak for someone else, but my guess is your dad doesn't want to be causing his family stress. remember that your tough times won't last forever, as long as you do what the doctor says, your dad should be fine

sounds like it from how he described it. that with the combination of high blood pressure isn't good either. lack of sleep plus a bunch of other things can be correlated to depression.

i'd be careful about the sleeping pills. not being able to sleep well is definitely linked to depression, but sleeping pills are sometimes overdosed in those that are depressed. not that your dad would definitely do that, but i've seen a mess of people at the hospital in there for "a few too many" ambiens. try not to stress and try to talk to your parents about how you're feeling. it definitely feels better to talk to people about stuff like this though. your friends will always listen if you really need to talk man. just support your dad and i'm sure he'll be okay.

yea its sleep apnia. and he isnt taking the sleeping pills. hes just taking more vitamins and certian ones the doctor gave him for things he needs to boost in his body. i dont know exactly what. i could find out for you all?

well i'm pretty sure then he's taking melatonin. its a hormone that helps with regulating circadian rhythms. i take it a few times a week to sleep better. i'm sure he has a bunch of other things. i don't think knowing them is too important for the ns community though. they do have sugeries for sleep apnea, but i'm assuming that the combination of that and high blood pressure has to do with the higher heart attack frequency. however, heart attacks aren't always fatal, and as long as he takes the necessary precautions i think he'll be okay. depression can be helped with the right medication and cognitive behavioral therapy (just my opinion, medication works very well, so does talking to people though. studies have shown that cbt and meds help the most but depression is very case by case). however, this might be a wake up call to hang out with him more, spend more time with your dad. you never know how much you miss someone until they're gone ya know. so live it up with him, because if he lives for another year or another 30, it'll be worth it.

well, i have sleep apnea, and its a bitch to deal with. i know what your dad is going through, minus the blood pressure issues, although mines not great. eventually i will have to sleep with the aid of a machine, like my father does now. do you know if they are going to have your father use a machine as a sleep aid?

i never really thought i was depressed, but from the sounds of it, there may be a connection. i think im going to call my doctor in the morning and see what he thinks.

dont take this the wrong way, but could weed help him? i know its perscribed to people with trouble sleeping, it might help, you never know. and the doing stuff with him is a mad good idea.

but seriously, masturbation is actually a health outlet for stress, even though it can be akward to talk about. jogging is also healthy, as is cleaning and sports, anything to stat active will help stress.

+++ vibes. I know a bit how it feels, my dad had a heart attack when I was 9 years old. Scared me shitless.

As far as melatonin goes, it is actually a placebo. Or that's what my psyc prof told me. And no medicine can help reset your bodies circadian rhythm. Bed rest is the best way to reset it. It takes, on average, two weeks of sleeping 12-17 hours every day to reset the rhythm. My grandmother and mother both have sleep apnea, and my grandmother sleeps with the CPAC machine at night. It helps a lot. Agreed on the taking the necessary precautions though.

I know exactly how you feel. I don't really want to explain it.. He'll get better though, spend time with him and do stuff that you both like. If he likes making things out of wood you could make a ski setup together, it will take your mind off it, you'll have a summer setup and he'll know he made you happy. ++++++vibes
