Passenger Jet Vanishes Over Pacific Ocean

This morning I awoke to the radio saying that a passenger jet flying from Brazil to France vanished without a trace. I found the article later and just wanted to share. They think it was hit by lightening and that it will probably be incredibly difficult to figure out what really happened or find any remains.
Very sad, my thoughts are with every friend and family member of the 228 people that just disappeared.

it had a matenence check april 16 which isnt that long ago

Yeah planes often fly into thunderstorms, nothing wrong with it exept itll be a bit bumpy, something else happened for sure.

it all depends on where and what was hit...

these planes are fly by wire, computer rigged super machines.... all these things do not mix well with electricity... i also believe it was a A330.. but who knows that could change with what news station youre tuned into.

yea it was definitely an airbus A330. What is the most disturbing about this is not only do they not know where the plane is, but they seem to have absolutely no clue whatsoever about what happened to. Even just an electrical failure isn't enough to bring it down. And whatever happened to it supposedly happened extremely abruptly.

and there were at least 2 other planes who flew the same route no more than 10 minutes beforehand and had no problems. Not even the slightest bit of turbulence.

well I wouldn't exactly say that they "know nothing" about it...there are several theories about what happened that seem to be accurate...I know there was a signal sent from the plane that indicated a serious loss in cabin pressure, which is likely an indication that at 7 miles high, the plane is literally breaking apart. Whatever caused that is not known. Can't stop thinking about how it would feel to be on that plane while it was going down, I've had scary dreams like that and I can't imagine. vibes to the families.

A couple of things: Planes do not fly into thunderstorms that equals more than just a bumby ride and possible death. THey fly around them. The Atlantic is not covered by radar, just HF radio and planes have to check in at certain geographical checkpoints.  That is all.

oh i know there are theories, but right now it really could have been anything. It did supposedly lose pressure but that doesn't mean it broke up. Who knows really.

it just bothers me than a massive modern airliner can just disappear along with over 200 people

i think he's just pointing out that if they were in a thunderstorm, something was probably wrong already. And some people had talked about planes routinely flying through storms, which they don't if they can avoid em.

and the 2nd part is proof of how difficult it is to find it. They only know roughly where the plane is based on it's route/where it reported in

It's not covered by ground-based radar, but airliners have their own weather radar.  And if you have a long enough band, diverting all the way around might not be an option.  So usually airliners will fly above them (of course, if you have a tall enough system, that might not be an option).

The lightening theory sounds unlikely.  Lightning very rarely does any significant damage to an airplane.  And A330s have something like a triple-redundant electrical system, so total electrical failure is pretty much unheard of.  Hadn't heard the depressurization theory, but that sounds plausible.  If you're trying to fly above a thunderstorm cell, you're probably at at least 40K, and if you have depressurization up there you have no choice but to go down into the shit.  I can't imagine many more scary scenarios then that.

That's the thing - they were too far offshore to be in radar contact with anybody.  Nobody even knew something was wrong until the Brazilians realized the flight had never checked in with Senegalese ATC.  So there's no way of telling where they went down because they probably weren't on anybody's scope at the time.

That and ACARS (Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System) sent them a message about a short circuit which is where this whole lightning speculation came about not even backed up with anything. Acars also tracks their route of flight.  There was a weather warning for severe Clear air turbulance of the west coast of Africa...........its all just speculation any how gotta wait till they find the plane first.

i was watching about this on the news before school this morning.

- there was no distress signal from the plane.
- went missing around 4:30am
- not confirmed missing until a few hours later
- radar is dead over large bodies of ocean, since a tower and land must exist in order to have radar.
- someting like 214 passengers and 16 crew were on the plane

this is creepy as shit

I don't know how covered the surveillance system is for the governments of the world, but is there no chance a satellite would have been able to see it? I guess if it was in a thunderstorm it wouldn't be visible from space anyways... If that actually happened.

This is kinda creepy. I'm sure everyone is making it sound creepier than it is, but plane crashes and such are really creepy for me... Something about being kilometers above the ground and in a pressurized tube going ridiculously fast at the command of a complete stranger is already a little unsettling to me.

I don't really expect anything all that crazy. probably had a electrical systems failure, crashed in the sea, no radar of where so its make the search a bitch. Hopefully they can find a lot of the people around soon if the crash wasn't too bad. well see
