These two cameras are really piquing my interest right now. I'm real stoked to see companies getting back into that middle ground between consumer and prosumer. They both remind me of the panny dvc30, sony hc1/A1U, and the og jvc hd1. All single ring cameras with a mix of consumer bullshit and a dab of pro features.
both have great framerate options.
Pros of the JVC:
16mbps higher bitrate than the HMC40
technically, the lcd is bigger.
2x hot swappable sdhc slots
Cons of the JVC:
it fuckin says JVC on it
the control dial looks pathetic
it fuckin says jvc on it, in more than one place
4000msrp, its at 3500 street price now, a complete ripoff. needs to come down in price to around $2500. its brand new though, so the price will come down, but who knows how cheap it will get.
Pros of the HMC40:
comes from a good family
control dials look well placed and such
cons of the HMC40:
its piss ugly.
format, mpeg 2 vs h264 mpeg4.
lens, 10x vs 12x, what really matters is the converted 35mm, the JVC ends up at 38. I'm curious to see how wide the HMC40 is, nd whether is will be closer to the true wide angle of 28 that the HMC150/HPX do.
2 xlr ports vs 1
ccd vs cmos
anyone else want to weigh in their thoughts on the two cameras?
