ha i am well aware of this.... the only thing i thought of was that i could act as a small time pot dealer so i could be anit legalization, because it would cut into my business. but that way im kinda agreeing with the other person anyway.
Because it is SO much easier to get now. Why would they want to inconvenience us?
"You only have 6 posts, so you should probably go with the griffon, seeing that someone with such low posts would never need anything over 12 din. I mean I have just over 100 posts and ski 14 din binders, so u would have to work your way up, smell what I'm steppin' in.......... " - theNUTZ
oh oh i have some decent facts that you can twist:
marijuana smoke kills lung cells. Unlike cigarette smoke, which kills off cells, but allows them to grow back (with the potential for mutation, i.e. cancer), marijuana smoke kills cells and does not allow the to regrow.
the chemical THC essentially blocks the synapses in your brain, making it harder for you to think quickly, and remember things BUT these THC blockages dissolve over time.
DEA looses jobs, prison industry looses jobs, impaired driving, gateway drug, pharmaceutical industry looses big money, may cause people to open their minds and realize a lot of the systems in place are BS. It is hard to argue against legalization. Even politicians try not to argue about it because they know they can't. Look at obama, when asked about it during the internet poll he didn't even talk about it just said "oh well I guess that says something about people on the internet". Ignorant.
Talk about the fact that although it is not physically addictive, it is no question causes mental dependency. This cannot be argued well.
You could also talk about how even in Amsterdam, where Marijuana was once legal, they are now starting to retract some of its legality because of crime. There should be a ton of info on this on the web, so there will be a lot of backup. Just gotta search to find it.
You could go with the argument that it should be "Decriminalized" rather than made legal. A lot of extremely reputable people think this, so I am sure you could find things out about it. Pretty much saying that it would give all of the benefits without the same societal shock that legalizing it would have.
watch "the union: the business behind getting high" and takes notes on the part where they talk about how the dealers/growers dont want it to be legal cuz they'd lose the massive profit that they are making
Decriminalization is the dumbest idea known to man. The only reason politicians support it is because they are to scared to go for full-blown legalization. What are some benefits of having it legal? Tax dollars, helps reduce organized crime, helps prevent lacing of the plant by dealers, etc. If you decriminalize it you get NONE of these benefits. Dumb ass idea. It doesn't work here in canada period.
ya i got some full tilts but they kept walking around on their own and they didnt play nicely with other boots, they ganged up on my cousins nordica's and it wasnt pretty. i had to lock them up when i went to work because they kept getting into the closet and humping a pair of women's technicas, i ended up having to have them put down they were just to badass...powdered_dougnuts on full tilts
"High doses of marijuana can result in hallucinations. Marijuana smokers experience the same health problems as tobacco smokers such as bronchitis, emphysema, and bronchial asthma. Extended use is associated with anti-motivational syndrome, lung damage, and risk to reproductive systems."
Overdose Effects: Fatigue, paranoia, possible psychosis
Although those would work, I would highly suggest not going with facts that your debater has definitely prepared for.
It is guaranteed that at some point in the debate, the person against you will bring up the fact that alcohol is legal, and argue that alcohol is a million times worse than weed, therefore weed should be legalized.
Rather than countering this argument by stating useless facts about health, go a different route. Bring up the fact that the US is the most alcohol ridden country, but not because alcohol is inherrantly bad, but because of the fact that it is ILLEGAL for kids to drink it. Then you can use facts about countries that have decriminalized the act of drinking as a minor and how they have extremely low alcohol problems. Then you can tie this back into the idea that marijuana should be decriminalized.
There is no way the opposing side would have any idea about what to do if you did this.
Do some research on this, this is one of the biggest reasons, that and alcohol companies don't want people switchin to smokin trees instead of slammin beers, even though those who pound beers now will probably just do both. Search the internet though and you should be able to find loads of information. Its about lobbyist and right now, marijuana doesn't have any big companies backing it to push lobbying.
Fuck nuggets on tuesdays
shredbums? no, we are shred profits -Haze
dont say any of this, because none of its true and you'l get raped if the other side actually knows what they're talking about
oh and if you're going to bring up the argument about it being addictive, find the stat online somewhere(or watch the union) that says somthin like 80-90% of the people in rehab are kids for weed. unless they reeeeeeeeeally know what they're talking about, they wont be able to refute an actual statistic.
for those that wonder why that is and would like to know, its because when caught with possession, a judge says you can either go to jail, or go to rehab, and obviously the judge/lawyer/parents tell the kid to go to rehab. no kid is actually going to go to jail, so the govt gets to point to that statistic.
also, say it kills brain cells. there was a study in the 70's (again, watch the union for more details and actual cite-able info) but i believe it was under the reagan administration that "proved" it caused brain damage. they gave monkeys a dosage of 3 joints a day for a year or something, and they found that all the monkeys died that had been smoking because their brain cells died.
again, for those that want to know why this is, it's because instead of filling the air with 1 joint 3 times a day, they put gas masks on the monkeys and suffocated them with smoke for like 5 minutes, pumping something like 20 j's into their mouths, multiple times a day, for like 2 months without any additional oxygen. the monkeys lost brain cells because of lack of oxygen to the brain, not because the marijuana. again, i dont remember the exact specifics, but you get the point. just watch the video
and studies actually show that people are more cautious after smoking weed, and therefor better drivers
and i agree with you nomensteve. when using these facts, you should ask your teacher at the end of the debate, after they decided who won, to let everyone know the truth behind the "facts", especially the ones in the union.
An easy comeback would be to say that our war on marijuana in all reality keeps the US afloat. It gives so many people jobs. DEA, Police, border patrol, prison guards, construction workers (working on prisons), and etc. It is a chain reaction that keeps a huge amount of people employed.
Okay, here is an argument that I just thought of. This will not be expected by anyone, and therefore will win you the debate.
You need to in essence agree with the person that you are debating, but use their facts against them. Here is how you will do it...
They will of course be talking about how Marijuana is a non-addicting, harmless drug. Rather than argue that, say that you agree. After a couple of seconds, with your opponent staring confused, begin your attack.
"Because Marijuana is a harmless drug, and everyone can agree on that, I can safely say that we would all much rather have our kids and others in society interested in it rather than more harmful drugs. Because marijuana is illegal, we have created a need and desire for the drug, and therefore a vast underground for people such as drug dealers to profit off of it. Most would argue that this is a bad thing, but I disagree.
If we were to legalize marijuana, this "pot underground" would disappear. There would no longer be a need for people to hide their affiliation with marijuana, and all of the profit would be sucked away from it... marijuana dealers would vanish. And everything would work out, for a little while.
The people who used to deal marijuana are not just going to fully disappear, they still need to make money to survive. So rather than dealing a harmless, non-addictive drug, they will move to dealing harder drugs. Marijuana will no longer be seen as something that is taboo, so there will emerge a new underground market for an even worse drug that is addictive, is harmful, and will eventually debilitate our nation.
By keeping marijuana illegal, we are supporting people's use of a non-addictive, non-gateway, harmless herb that keeps them calm and focused. If we make it legal, we will in effect support the use and profit from much worse drugs that we have no idea of the consequences of. "
that's a poor argument and is easily rebutted. It's the theory that doing pot is cool because it is illegal and if it was legalized people would just move onto something else illegal. The reality is that for the majority of people this isn't true. When alcohol was made legal people didn't stop drinking. The majority of people who would change drug habits because of the "cool factor" would most likely be underage teens whom the drug would still be illegal for anyways.
....they cant test to see if they were under the influence of marijuana DURING the crash...they can only test if they had it in their system, wich means they could of smoked it 2 weeks ago..and would still show up as positive.
